I was looking throu a lot of unpacked boxes -- an "assignment" given to me by my manager (wife). Came accross some of my older gear. 2 components got me thinking as to whether I should add to my current yamaha 1400 system... or will I be wasting time. The compeonents are:
pioneer equilizer (passive)
Pioneer dynamic range expander (I'm not sure what it actually does... except it seems to add some new bass..)

Any opinions? should I find a place for them at the next yard sale?

If you have time, go for it. I personally don't like "sound additives" but it might be fun to mess around with.
I know I wouldn't do it, I'm very happy with the way my system sounds and that's the same question you need to ask yourself.

Also, my manager is making me clean the garage this weekend. I know exactly what you mean .

My dad still has some sort of DBX expander dating back from slightly after the Earth cooled. He runs it in the signal path with his Nakamichi cassette deck, and it always just sounded like some sort of compressor/gate to me. Just running the Nak clean sounds a million times better. Play around and see what you like!
