Hope u guys dont mind hellping the newbie.
Ive just started to upgrade my system. My center is JBL Nothridge EC35 and my fornt are the same series EC60. Now this is where i need help.
I live in a loft with 14ft ceilings with no carpeting. The wall on the left side is a foot away from my current surround speaker, and on the right 16ft.
So should I go with the QS 4's or will I need the QS 8's.
Is there a big difference?

Any more info on the size of your space and where they'll be placed in relation to the preferred seating position(s)? From your brief description it sounds like the QS8's might be the way to go.

I have a pair of QS8's and have been very happy with them. I probably could have gone with the QS4's, but at the same time I did not want to end up wondering 'what if', especially if I ever end up with a bigger place.

Thanks for the reply
The size of the place is about 1500 sqft of open space.
I dont have much space behind the sofa because of my kitchen so they would have to be placed behind or side of me on stands. I just think that the 8s might be too much but then again i dont want to regreat not getting them.
Thanks in advance for any opinion

Both QS4's and QS8's are very sensitive 94 and 95 db respectively and your receiver or amp will drive them easily and play loud. The QS8’s have a lower frequency response than the QS4’s (lower bass) but not much. I like the QS8’s they are wonderful. I’m sure the QS4’s are great too. I don’t think you could go wrong with either model.
Are you getting an entire Axiom setup? I would try to get speakers that are well matched. For example the Epic 80 uses a M80’s, VP150 and QS8’s. The Epic 50 uses M50’s, VP100 and QS4’s. I believe they are all matched up by wattage and frequency, I could be wrong though. The dimensions of your room will help.

That seems like a pretty big space, especially with those 14 ft ceilings. If it were me I would get the QS8's just to be safe (but I may just being over-cautious). Keep in mind that I haven't heard the QS4's. You might want to give Axiom a call or send them an email.

Hopefully someone who owns QS4's in a large-ish space will chime in with their experience.

I have a set of QS8's in a small room (21*19 If I remember correctly). The QS8's will not take over if you balance your system out(Radio Shack SPL meter). I have mine crossed over at 80Hz and set to small. The idea is not to get distracted by the surrounds.

Thanks again for your replys.
I think I will go for the QS 8's . This way when I replace my front towers wich are only 175 w compared to 400w that the QS 8's are my sorround wont have to change. I just hope they match for now because the change wont be for awile.
thanks again.

Greetings cylinder! If and when you do replace your front speakers with Axioms, be prepared for an unbelievable experience. I too had jbls(e80's), sold them and took a leap of faith with Axioms. Started out with m22's and then upgraded to m60's. Classical music has never sounded better to me. Sorry I cant reply on the surrounds, dont have them yet. Take care, Mike.

cylinder - best place for the surrounds are to the side of the seating position. Experiment with placement once you get them.

You may have already been aware of this but you should also plan on getting the Axiom stands for the QS speakers as they have drivers top and bottom, so conventional stands will not work.
