Hi folks! I'm a pleased and proud new owner of an Epic 60 system, and enjoy the good comments here on this forum. I've having a problem installing my EP350 that perhaps someone here can help me solve.

I've hooked my sub to my Arcam AVR300 receiver using an Axiom coaxial cable. When I use the Avia test disk in the DVD to balance all speakers, I get no signal from the sub. In fact, the signal light on the rear of the sub stays a red color, never changing to green (indicating a signal from a source like the receiver, right?).

I've used my receiver setup to register the sub, set a 80Hz crossover, and the sub's volume is at 10 o'clock. The sub's gain knob is at full right.

My next (desperate) step is to attempt to wire the sub with normal speak dual wire to see if the cable is faulty. Has anyone experienced this problem and solved it?

the one instance it happened to me, it turned out to be the cable. Long story short, when I mounted the shelves around a fireplace -- I "pinched" the cable. Remember if there is a wire hidden in the wall, You'll usually hit it!

to trouble shoot, I first tried an old sub that I hooked up, and it didn't work. I then ran out to a nearby BestBuy, and bought a new cable, and voila -- instant sub. (make sure you save the packaging for the cable so you can return it if it doesn't solve your problem)

Don't worry about it, it's unlikely a problem with your sub, or amp.

Try a few things first, such a different cord, as Bilbo suggested. Also, check your receiver's speaker setup menu and be sure the subwoofer is set to "yes," or "on," and that the distances are correctly set.

If all else fails, don't hesitate to call the folks at Axiom. They are easy to deal with, and will more than willing to spend time with you to solve your problem. And have no fear. Should the problem, indeed, be with the subwoofer itself, they'll make things right for you.

I agree, probably the receiver setting.

vcarter,

Does this only happen with the Avia test disk or is the sub not happy at all? Make sure the the sub option in your receiver is turned on, I know it's stupid to say but you never know. also try bumping up the gain in the receiver for the sub.

Thanks, fellas. I've tried everything I can think of, including switching cables--nada from the sub. Avia has some good test tones for the sub, and the only time I get anything is from the M60s. I lose all test sound below about 55Hz (limit of M60s). I know it sounds like a receiver menu issue, and I've posted in the Arcam forum, so maybe someone there will be able to point out my failing. If that doesn't work, I'll call Axiom when I return in a week. Thanks for all you help. Great place for support!

Well, I hate to admit it, but the problem was USER ERROR!

Had the sub cable connected to the receiver's sub "in" connection. Boy does it work better hooked to the "out" connection. Duh, double-duh for me. My bad.

Isn't life grand when everything is working? Now we're cooking!

That's great!
I wouldn't worry about the error, we all do it .

Absolutely true. I've been operating sound equipment, privately and professionally, for more than 30 years. When I run into a problem like the one you were having, the FIRST THING I assume is pilot error. 99% of the time, I'm right.

I thought my water heater had stopped working once when only cold water would come out of the shower head. Turns out I was just turning the knob the wrong way - after turning it the right way for 15 years.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'd guess it's been broken for a week or so... I passworded part of my site, including, inadvertently, that picture.
