I resently purchased a calibration dvd from somewhere. Went ahead and picked up a sound meter from the shack. I'd calibrated my system by ear before. Man what a difference.

I have not bought my axioms yet...still looking for a deal on a receiver. But after tuning my old crap system I'm not in such a rush. It actually sounds good comparatively.

So my question is about the sweet spot? How do you go about building a system where not just one person is going to enjoy it at a time? The bi polar surrounds seem to be a semi answer.

How can you enlarge the sweet spot?

PS. Held back from making any lude comments..very proud of myself

Someone will certainly correct me, but creating a sweet spot for multiple people is very difficult in a Home Theater configuration. Note that when you go to a movie theatre there are many many speakers and the place is designed for as many people as possible to enjoy.

I've come to the realization that unless you set up some sort of "stadium" style couch arrangment (i.e. couches are lined up with each other, the back one slightly higher than the other) you can't really accomplish this. Whoever is sitting directly in front of the screen between the speakers in the optimal sweet spot will get the best sound, and that's it.

leaf,
There are various tricks that receivers have, coupled with 2 front speakers and a centre channel, depending on distance back and the speaker distance apart, you can create a pretty wide sweet spot.
In a friend's basement, which had more room than our own, we managed to get the spot about 6 feet wide, then ran out of room.

Thanks for the replies,

I've been playing with positioning a bit. But I run outa room too. I got the sweet spot to about a 3 foot circle...makes for comfortable listening when the gf comes over. Gonna order my first set of axioms next week if all goes well.
