hk 630 no output, any ideas ? - 10/30/04 12:30 AM
Incident #1 -- came down in the morning, turned on the receiver (already set to FM), no output on the speakers. Turned on the TV -- normally shows the DVD player "screen saver" but just a blue (no input) screen. Volume control etc.. seemed to work fine, front panel responds to controls. Turning on OSD showed "OSD" on front panel but still blue screen on TV, just a brief "wiggle" in the image as if the video was being switched but no signal on either input.
Only other unusual thing was that I couldn't seem to switch surround modes. Figured maybe the DSP had hung up so switched off and unplugged for 5 minutes. Turned on and everyhing worked.
Next day, same problem except (a) I could switch surround modes OK, and (b) pulling the power cord didn't make any difference. I thought might be a strand shorting the speaker output but thought something lit up red when the amp went into shutdown. I pulled out most of the speaker wires (just left the mains), no effect.
Tried moving to another AC outlet; no difference. Next step is to pull & check the main wires and get some banana plugs so there is even less chance of a short, but I doubt that's gonna fix it. Any other ideas to try before I start thinking about repair/replace ?
Thanks,
JB
