After seeing the pics posted by Jorge, it's got me curious about wall mounting my own VP150. When we get a new TV next year (fingers crossed), the chances are pretty good that it won't have a level top to place my center channel on. (What the hell are the TV makers thinking? Have you noticed how many big TV's these days have no place to put a center channel speaker?)
If that turns out to be the case, I may need to wall mount the VP150 on the wall behind the TV. My only concern with this idea is that that would place the VP150 considerably further back than the M60 mains, and a decent ways behind the TV itself. I've not done actual measurements yet, but I'm guessing that it would put the VP150 about 2' behind the front of the TV, and close to 2 1/2' behind the M60's.
What is that going to do to my sound?
I had thought that if I get the Samsung DLP as planned (or equivelant), I would build something like the above. (Sorry for the crude illustration. The monitor, stand and speaker are "pulled apart" for illustrative purposes;the shelf for the center would just "hover" an inch or so above the TV).
I would really be placed "behind" the TV so that basically you would just see a shelf "floating" above the top of the TV's cabinet. The VP150 I have is really a bit too big to fit on a shelf under the TV in many of the TV stands I've seen, in particular the Bell'O one that matches my audio rack.
I've also wondered about doing it in steel as I know a welder that loves doing artsy, furniture stuff like this.
Craig,
My
livng room setup kind of required that the TV was placed in the corner, therefore putting my VP150 about 2-3' behind my M22s.
The setup has worked fine for me with the exception of the "low dialogue volume" that people occasionally ask about on this forum. I can use my SPL meter and Avia disc and calibrate it perfectly on paper, but I usually end up bumping the center level up about 2-3db.
I'd imagine this placement might be more of a problem if you're seriously into SACD/DVD-A.
Yes...your center channel is behind your M22's but it's still pretty much even with the TV. Mine would be behind the TV.
Mark: Nice idea, but it'd never pass SAF.
Hmmm...no helpful thoughts whatsoever. Sorry.
Slightly off the subject...I was looking at your setup on the Wall of Fame. Is that a Salamander Designs cabinet?
Nope...

btw...what the heck is the url for the wall o' fame? I can never remember. Why do they keep that a hidden link?
Ahh....I like it very much. I searched high and low for something that could accommodate the VP150, and ended up with a console from Pier One that works very, very well. Are you happy with the quality? I've been eyeballing
this one for a while now.
This is a discrete wall mount.

I hung mine from the ceiling.. The VP150 that is..
Tapped two small pilot holes on the top near the edges..
Twisted in a couple of small screw eyes..
For the ceiling, I used those self tapping drywall anchors..
Believe me, two medium size anchor are more that capable of supporting the speakers weight, but you can use the old stand by 'molly bolts' if weak at heart..
Twisted another two screw eyes into the anchors, add some chain, and 'done deal'..
If the wife doesn't like the look of the chain, cover it..
That's also two minutes work.. Just take a length of fabric, sew it long ways inside out (to hide the stitching), and slip it over the chain..
I really love my set up.. Nothing touching the big screen, height easily adjusted by adding or removing links, and in my case (black speaker, black chain cover with black wall behind it all, and with the spkr covers on, it disapears.. First time guests are always amazed at the "Flying" speaker !
Oh yeah, in case you were wondering, I run the speaker wire up the chain, inside the cover, across the ceiling and down the back wall.. I used flat speaker wire, and painted it to match the walls..
Mikey,
A picture saves a thousand words...
We love to see pictures.

The build quality is excellent. (but at that price it ought to be!) I've been very happy with it.

I actually thought that the WAF would be very high.
If I didn't explain it correctly, the entire frame goes under and behind the monitor. It won't be visible at all, save the tiny shelf edge under the "floating" center channel speaker.
Craig, calibration of the center channel for distance and level will correct for any reasonable amount of difference.
I agree with JohnK...put your receiver to work!!Recalibrate the speaker distance to the listening area and correct it by auditioning a movie that you like so you can compare the sound before/after (kinda' to have a reference...)
