Just wanted some input.....I have the chance to buy a Denon AVR-5803 it has not been upgraded to the A version. The unit does not have a remote or owners manual. I am getting the unit for $2247.00 with a 5 year extended warrenty. Am I getting a good deal considering there is no remote or owners manual ???

I'm sure others can better answer whether the 5803 is a good deal for that price or whether or not it will meet your needs... but as far as the remote and manual go, you can get the manual in .PDF form and you can always buy a really good remote and download the codes!

If you are getting that from a reputable source, it's in good shape and you can live without a warranty, that's an excellent price. The question is if you can get the upgrade based on the source. Since I don't know any of the particulars I can really only give you some advice to call Denon and see 1) will they do the upgrade, 2) how long will it take and 3) how much will it cost.

The receiver is brand new .....it was a display model and comes from a Denon authorized dealer......not usre about the upgrade yet but will find out tomorrow.
Which leads me to another question ......is the upgrade worth it???

Based on this info , I would get the upgrade. You'll need to make the decision for yourself, though. If nothing else, it would help with resale. This is $100 well spent.

With what you just explained, this looks almost like a robbery! You might see what the dealer can do to get the upgrade for you before you buy the unit. Denon might do it free for the dealer, or the dealer might charge you cost rather than aving to pay for the whole thing. Additionally, they can go through the aggravation of shipping back & forth.

If you aren't gagging on the $$ and don't mind buying a new MX-700 remote that can be programmed on your PC (an open box can be had for around $180 at surfremotecontrol), this is a great opportunity. Hell, I can set up an MX-700 file for you and mail it to you. Take a look at the review for the thing at Remote Central.

Based on the price I've seen that receiver bring used, that is a smokin' deal. Are you willing to share where you are getting it?

I'm getting it from Tweeter, they only had a few display models left.....I've got this one
If you wait a few months I'll sell it to ya.....I want the new AVR-4806.

That's a GREAT deal. I bought my 4802r when it was being discontinued, last summer, for 1499 at crutchfield. I thought that was a good deal, but you've got a "steal" there especially if it's from an authorised dealer...

anyways good job!! and enjoy!

I see crutchfield has it on for 3799, but for that price I'd start thinking separates......
