I've checked out a few on line stores that have the HK 7300 but do not ship to Canada. Any suggestions would be a great help in sorting out the electronics side of the HT system.

Thanks,
Troy
I didn't find any when I was looking for an HK... almost gave up but ended up finding a decent sale price at FutureShop. I doubt they carry 7300s though, even the 630 scared them a bit
I'm not sure of any stores that will ship here at all, and certainly none would honour the warranty. I got my Harman Kardon AVR320 used from a member of this forum. It came regular surface mail and I had to pay GST and PST but no duty or brokerage.

HK prices in this country are insane mostly due, as I understand it, to the Quebec distributor being very inflexible in their pricing.

My problem is I simply love the HK, my next unit will be an HK, but I'll be damned if I pay these outrageous markups. FutileShop usually offers a good price once a year at Christmas but that doesn't help you now.

Tyopical US price
OneCall - Harman Kardon AVR135 $399.99

Typical Canadian price.
FutureShop - Harman Kardon AVR135 $699.99CDN/576.27US funds.

That's way too much of a mark up for those of us north of the border.

Good luck with this.

Etronics carries HK http://www.etronics.com/ it's a borderfee site so they do ship to Canada. I'll look into this as well.
I just priced a Harman/Kardon AVR435 7 x 65W 7.1-Channel Receiver at etronics.

Here are the details:

US price: $599.95
CDN price $750.19
Duty: $45.01
GST: $58.51
PST: $63:62
Total Price delivered to my door $958.00

You price would vary as they need your postal code to give an accurate price, for what it's worth I'm in Burlington Ontario.

Futile shop didn't have a price for the HK but the AudioShop in Ottawa did, they want $1499.99 CDN and I suspect delivery is extra.

Thats a savings of over $500 assuming there are no problems with having the warranty handled in Canada.

As far as warranty, I have read with the HK it has to honoured in country of purchase. Gambling a bit, but the warranty is only 2 years P&L. The NAD was 5 years P&L, but they are not sold online. Rotel is not sold online either.

As far as being in a hurry to purchase, I am waiting until my recroom is finished before buying. Too much gyproc dust!

I am also planning a trip through North/South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana near the end of June. I take it the retail stores in the States are more expensive then the online bargains on the net.

Thanks to all for your input,
Troy
Oops there's also a matter of sales tax on the unit from AudioShop, so the savings are actually $767CDN
I checked out etronics.com;

HK 7300------$1399
exch to CDN--$ 350
duty---------$ 0
Ship/handle--$ 108
GST----------$ 131
PST----------$ 0

total--------$1988

The original $3300 price(before tax), that I was given, without bartering, in winnipeg would cost me $atleast $1800 more. That is nuts!
Warranty and/or return shipping hastles or not, The internet shopping is the way to go.

Thanks for "that" address,
Troy
no provincial sales tax? lucky bastard .

I think I'd contact HK to see if the warranty can be transferredif you buy it from a "borderfree" site. That may be a possible exception.

Your "that is nut's" comment is spot on
Troy,
When I ordered my Denon AVR-2105/885, it was either ecost or etronics. I settled with ecost as their price was cheaper.
Denon AVR-2105/885-$369.99
Exchange to CDN----$ 93.11
Duty----------------$ 27.79
Shipping-------------$ 32.37
Handling-------------$ 20.80
GST/HST------------$ 38.08

Total----------------$582.14

The cheapest price that I have seen locally was around $899.00 When you add the tax ($125.86) on to the $899 you end up with $1,024.86. In the end I have saved $442.72!!!
Money left over for some QS8's...
Hi Winterpeg,

I bought my denon 4802r from crutchfield.com for 1499 U.S.

When all was said and done I got a 5 year extended warranty and they shipped it to the borderstore ( about 1/2 hour drive from my house). They didn't ship to Canada but would honor the warranty. Because Thunder bay is so close to the border, it worked out for me.

I even gave our local shops the option to come "close" to the price I was getting on-line. The best I could get was 3300 cdn BEFORE taxes @ 15% and also before any extended warranty.

My final online price after exchange, 5 year warranty, tax at the border, and gas money to go for a drive was under 2400 cdn. It IS crazy the way that these places won't deal. I would have paid more to buy it in town but they wouldn't even try to get my business. One place laughed at the idea of buying speakers on-line when I could listen to his nuance speakers (listed at 12k) but this week the sales rep would let them go for 4000. I bought my speakers (obviously)online as well as my receiver and I could not be happier.

Makes me wonder if i could have gotten a better deal on a TV!

Anyways sorry for the rant.... I don't think crutchfeild sells H/K , but Etronics is a similar E-tailer, and I found crutchfeild's sales rep on the phone very freindly and quite patient with all of the questions i had. (MUCH like the folks at Axiom)

Good luck!!
J&R is selling the HK 7300 for $1300 and they are an authorized online dealer for HK.

Here's the link
http://www.jr.com/JRSectionView.process?N=10946+400876

Here's the link for list of HK authorized online dealers. It comes form the Canadian HK site, so HK might honour the warantee. Might want to contact them to find out.
http://www.harmankardon.com/online_retailers.aspx?Language=ENG&Region=USA&Country=CA

I also noticed J&R offers an extended warantee option for about $60. I wonder if that would cover a Canadian purchased product.

But as you said, without a warantee and at something like a $1200-1400 savings, even if you had to pay for a repair you'd likely still be way ahead.

By the way, the 7300 looks like one bitchin receiver.
Good luck - Paul
Thanks for the help, gents.

In the end the money saved will allow me to add a little "top up" in the speaker department. Maybe an extra set of QS8's for the rear and possibly help upgrade to the EP500.

I'm still tossing between the M80's and M60's as well!

Any which way you look at it, it's a win -win situation!

Thanks again,
Troy
Go to Amazon.com. JR is their outlet for the HK. $1299. They'll ship anywhere.
Hi!
I bought my 7300 last Christmas from etronics(50% off). They work with Borderfree and when you order on line you get the final price.(there are no fees other than PST).
Excellent service overall.
The receiver is amazing!
P.S.Hard to find a stand(rack) to accomodate it.I've got one from Best Buy but I had to put the receiver on the top shelf, the only one wide enough.
Good luck!

Also had the same problem few months ago. I went to futureshop and got to match the HK235 on JandR I think which is an authorized dealer. I got the sales person to go to J&Rs website . He couldn't believe the price difference. At the end they couldn't match the price but got a discount due to different warranty. Retail was $899.00 plus tax. I paid $600.00 including tax. I thought that was a steal.
