I just ordered a Denon DVD-2900S (the silver version).

I couldn't pass up $509 with free shipping. (Ecost)

Roger is going to kill me.
Posted By: bridgman Re: I'm a dead man - 04/14/05 11:39 PM
That *is* a good price. Tell him we said so.
Posted By: MarkSJohnson Re: I'm a dead man - 04/14/05 11:48 PM
Tell him Mr. Bear ordered it, and you know nothing about it.
Posted By: oldskoolboarder Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 12:06 AM
Wow, that is a good price. It might be worth the hell...
Posted By: ravi_singh Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 12:19 AM
Spiff, don't tell me you just ordered one

i am SO tempted to do the same......
Posted By: Ray3 Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 12:25 AM
spiff - once he sees the first movie, the danger is over. You are SOOOO gonna love the thing.

Ravi - get one NOW before they are gone!
Posted By: richeydog Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 12:25 AM
Awesome news spiff. You know what they say tis better to ask for forgiveness....

I heard Mark Johnson is already preparing the mother of all eulogies.
Posted By: ravi_singh Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 12:27 AM
I get paid tomorrow, too, Ray3........... damn you. I'm going to resist. I can't spend more money on HT now. I have a very good panasonic player and it suits me just fine.

but i can only imagine how nice a denon 2900 would go with my new hdtv and to play sacd and dvd-a...................

Posted By: spiffnme Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 12:33 AM
Ravi...

Give in.

You know you want it.

This baby was made for HDTV.

Am I helping?

Posted By: MarkSJohnson Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 12:38 AM
If I had the money at the moment, I'd give in! I've given up on the Denon Link of the 3910, and the 2200 seems to get reviewed as well as the 2910 anyway. Besides, if I can't make Ray happy by finally getting back to programming my 700, I could at least have made him happy by buying the player....!
Posted By: MarkSJohnson Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 01:06 AM
Of course, they DO have the 3910 at a great price, too.
Posted By: spiffnme Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 01:08 AM
I've had numerous people tell me they liked the 2900 just as well as the 3910. For $200+ savings, I had to go with the 2900.

Posted By: RickF Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 01:17 AM
Yo spiff, if you DO get killed...can I by any chance be first on the list for the 2900 since obviously you won't be needing it anymore? I'd take really good care of it.

Pretty good... 11 "trying to be helpful" posts before we started picking over the carcass.

We're getting better !
Posted By: snippy Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 01:55 AM
Too bad you still dont have an HDTV, Spiff !
Posted By: spiffnme Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 02:12 AM
I know.

I don't even have a set that can accept component inputs. S-Video is as good as I can get right now.

Posted By: AshBoomstick Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 11:07 AM
i feel your pain, i've still got my 27" RCA from when i first got in the navy! i've got a plamsa on the docket for Christmas this year though!
Posted By: Seabear Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 03:40 PM
Spiff, congrats!
Hope you are going to take advantage of the wonderful sound output of that beast via the analog outs and the DACs in it. That was the big reason why I was so swayed, based on Ray's experience with it. Based on what you and some of the other guys say about the Rotel gear, I'll bet it sounds incredible.
Heck, mine has been here for 3 months and I have yet to even start calibrating the Video side of it! That is how much use it gets just for music!
(and that also might be an indication of how good the picture is right out of the box!)

BTW, a question to all;
when I DO get around to playing with the video settings, which comes first, the TV or the 2900?

Enjoy the 2900, and the Silver looks really, really nice.

not trying to rain oyp but if you are only using svideo will it even make a visual difference?
Posted By: MarkSJohnson Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 07:45 PM
Craig-
Does Roger know yet?

"Move aside.... Dead Man Walking!"

And on the same topic, does anyone want to make a donation to the "Buy Mark a new player while you can get them ridiculously cheap so his eyes don't have to look like that from watching DVDs on an inferior player and he'll pay you back real soon he promises oh pretty please" fund?
Posted By: snakeyes Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 08:25 PM
my mark what a long fund you have.
Posted By: spiffnme Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 08:47 PM
Nope.

Posted By: Ken.C Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 08:54 PM
Oh boy are you a dead man.
Posted By: spiffnme Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 09:02 PM
You're making me feel so much better. Thanks.

Posted By: curtis Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 09:15 PM
somehow, you have got to equate it to his PC gaming.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 09:19 PM
Oh yeah. Gaming costs you guys a lot of money, doesn't it? New computer, controllers, games, mice, keyboards...
Posted By: spiffnme Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 09:34 PM
And he plays two MMORPG games which have a monthly charge. Yeah...that's the ticket. My wasting $500 is nothing.

Sure. That'll work. <rolls eyes>

Posted By: Ken.C Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 09:35 PM
Does the 2900 look anything like your old DVD player?

Even better: did your old DVD player... break?
Posted By: curtis Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 09:44 PM
In reply to:

spiff and I discussed that last Monday at tennis....answer is "not even close".

Can you say someone loaned it to you to try?
Posted By: Ken.C Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 09:46 PM
I forgot to include the

<waggles eyebrows a la Groucho Marx>

in my post...
Posted By: spiffnme Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 10:30 PM
The 2900 is about twice the size.

My Pioneer works just fine. (damn it!)

My only saving grace is that I had intended to get the 2900 last year for about $600 through a friend at PC Mall. That fell through, as they were out of stock and I got impatient and canceled the order.

I guess I'll just tell him it became available at a really great price and I grabbed it.

Posted By: Ken.C Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 10:38 PM
That's about all you can do, I'm afraid. He'll get over it.

Precede that with "I've been a very bad boy!" And then say "Spank me! Spank me!" afterwards.

"My Pioneer works just fine. (damn it!)"

Got a hammer?

Posted By: Rock_Head Re: I'm a dead man - 04/15/05 11:59 PM
Sell the Pioneer....
Posted By: spiffnme Re: I'm a dead man - 04/16/05 12:40 AM
I'll move the Pioneer upstairs into the bedroom and likely sell the old Panasonic, or give it to my brother.

Posted By: littleb Re: I'm a dead man - 04/16/05 03:09 AM
Dude,

You just came back from Europe, where I'm sure you spent megabucks. An additional $510 shouldn't make much of a difference. You could try not mentioning the new player. Maybe he won't even notice it.
Posted By: spiffnme Re: I'm a dead man - 04/16/05 07:21 AM
Nah...gotta own up to it. Not much for the sneaking around.
