Hello all,
I am currently running the above mentioned DVD player with my Denon 2805 7.1 Axiom system. This DVD player is one of those play-all machine if you are not familiar with it (DVD, DVD-A, MP3, SACD, etc.), but so far I have only tried DVD videos on it and it does a great job.
I bought a Yo Yo Ma SACD last night (my first SACD disk) just to hear what it is like on my system, and while I could see the counter moving, no sound was coming out even though I configured everything on the DVD player and my Denon to play material from the player. Right now the player's audio is connected to the Denon via optical connection but according to the Pioneer manual, if I want to listen to SACD or DVD-A material I would have to use the separate multi-channel connectors in the back of the player... Is this true? Just wondering if the optical is sending over multi-channel information for a DVD, why wouldn't it send multi-channel information for a SACD? If anyone has had experience with this please let me know. Thanks much!

Your guess is dead on. SACD and DVD-A do not send digital signals. If you want to hear an SACD or DVD-A you must hook up the six analog outputs.

It's a pain in the butt, but multi-channel audio via SACD and DVD-A sounds so good, it's worth it.

Okay, so I connected all the output jacks from the DVD player to the Ext. In on the receiver, and the music is now coming through and very clear. I can now understand the alure of multi-channel audio cds. One question though... I am not getting any input into the subwoofer... The Denon manual said if you connect the SW Out from the player to the receiver's SW In on the Ext. In jacks, the signal will be sent to SW Out Preout jack, which I have connected to the sub right now and works well with DVD movies. Am I forgetting to turn something on? The receiver manual said it would do the work itself and I know there is bass material on my SACD... Any help would be appreciated!

I don't own either the same player or receiver as you, but my guess would be that you need to enter the bass management setup on your player and set all of your channel levels, including the sub.

Unless you are connected via I-link or Denon-link, and you're not, then your DVD player handles all channel level & bass mgmt. settings.

Thanks rmhalljr for your help. I tried to find anything like a bass management on my DVD setup menu but could not find it. I also had my HSU sub on auto detect mode and no signal was going to it, so I am all out of ideas here...

Just wondering,does the disc say it is 5.1.If it doesn't have the lfe channel that could account for the sub not recieving any info.This is just a guess.

i've got the same player, and if i'm not mistaken you can't access the correct menu to setup the bass management if the disc is currently playing; you have to hit stop first. i'm at work tonight so i cant rush and give you a definitive answer but i can get you one by 0900!
p.s.- it really is a good player, especially for only about 120 bucks!

oh, another possibility is that there's just not any sound low enough on the disc to make it below the crossover and to the sub. you might want to play the test tones on the 2805 to make sure the sub comes on first, verify the crossover freq (for you 80hz is about right), and also check the indications on the front of the player to make sure everythings kosher.

Peter, as RMH and Ashley pointed out, it's necessary to set the bass management for SACDs in the player rather than the receiver. This is because the bass management is done in the digital rather than analog realm, so it has to be done in the player before it does the digital to analog conversion. Your player has settings in the initial setup menu for setting speaker sizes and distances and the speakers should be set "small" so that the lowest bass is directed to the sub output.

alright, here we go. all of this is in the initial setting menu, digital audio out sub-menu, Digital out:ON, options sub-menu, SACD playback: Multi-ch area, Speaker sub-menu, Audio output mode: 5.1 channel, speaker installation: make sure the SW is on
