I have been looking for a 5.1 speaker package for my family room for awhile. It will be used 75% for home theater and 25% for music.

Due to "Sposal Factor" considerations, the only Axiom packages I am looking at are the Epic Micro and the Epic Mini. I am considering other packages such as the Energy Take 5.2, Polk RM6600, Mirage AVS, and others.

One of my local dealers is not carrying the M1's right now. He says its because there is not enough of a difference between them and the MZeroes in performance. I take this with a grain of salt, because I am pretty sure the same guy said exactly the opposite thing to me when he had the M1's in stock.

My question is, if I can talk my wife into going for the Mini with its larger center and fronts will I be rewarded with better performance or not?

The Epic Micro HT sytem is appropriate for use in smaller rooms of less than 200 sq. feet. Because of the larger woofers in the front and center channels (3 1/2 in. to 4 1/4 in.), the Epic Mini system will have more output for larger spaces. Overall, however, the design of these two systems is very similar.

So, yes, you will gain better performance with the Epic Mini HT system but consider the room dimensions in making your decision.

The Mini sounds noticably richer sounding than the Micro. The Micro is very good for something that size but if space allows the Mini will sound better, especially on music.

I used to own the M1's, and they were truly quite amazing speakers. I traded them in for M3's because I needed the bigger size speaker in my setup.

Canuck, instead of the package consider buying through factory outlet in part and using 3 M1s( one vertically positioned as the center). You might save a little money and be more satisfied with the sound.

Since this system will be used for music as well as home theater, I think I will go with the more musical setup.

I am also considering an extra pair of M1's for two-channel listening in my dining room. Given that the music played in there will be mostly dinner music, I don't need a lot of bass response. Besides, a pair of M3's would be way too big.

Your thoughts?

I am thinking of doing the same thing (M1's in another room) too. except i want to put them under the roof of my porch (outdoor but will not get wet). and it seems like a reasonable idea. and yes the M3's would probably be too big.

I was going to buy a pair of M1's for the kitchen, they would be amazing for that. i just don't have the money right now, and i might wait and buy some M2i's once they come out.
