I have M22's and like em alot. So I'm thinking of adding the QS-8 surrounds and a VP100 center. Small/med square room. Timbre matching makes sense to me, but not locked into it yet. I like the Ascend, PSB and AX VP150 centers too. Heard some neg stuff bout the VP-100 sounding thin. That doesnt make sense cause its basically a M22. Any thoughts? Any other mix/match ideas? QS-8's are expensive, anything cheaper but good? Thought about M2's or 3's. TY all.

Dude, welcome. Disregard what you may have heard about the VP-100 sounding "thin"; if it was properly set up, especially the crossover frequency, it doesn't have such a problem. My own suggestion for a center to match your M22s would be another M22, positioned vertically of course, or an M2 which would be nearly the same, if you'd want a smaller center. Since your room isn't very large, the QS4s should be excellent and would save some money.

I'd concur with JohnK's suggestions and also point out that the VP100, properly set up, has excellent timbre matching with the M22s.

Likewise, the QS4s would be excellent for your room and would provide a superior sense of envelopment at various listening locations in the room. When you sit in the "sweet spot" using direct-radiating surrounds (the M2i's have a closer timbral match to the M22s than the M3ti's) at the sides, there is little difference from the QS4s. But when you move away from the sweet spot, the QS4s deliver superb envelopment throughout the room, and they do so without losing directional acuity for "hard-mixed" sounds.

Another way to look at the issue of being "thin"; and this relates to the issue of cross-over as John had mentioned, and his reference to the M22:

A lot of folks prefer a more full-range speaker than the VP100, and that's where an M22 comes in! It goes quite a bit lower than the VP100 and that in itself may aleviate some of the "thinness"

And of course if the center is properly crossed to the sub, the center will just happen to "sound" more "full" as well!!

It's all about the crossover. I've got mine crossed at 100 Hz, and it doesn't sound thin at all.

Dude, I would consider going with the vp150 instead of the vp100. It is a noticeably better center speaker. It matches quite well with my m22's. I'd settle for the vp100 only if budget is a big restriction for you.

Well I have auditioned the VP100 and here is what I've learned. Its a good match and adaquate. BUT,, I dont shoot for adaquate. So I'll get the 150. The main reason is that, and I just learned this cause I'm new to HT, 80% of your sound experience with DVD's/HT system is listening to dialogue and backgound sounds and some music from center spk. I thought more sound would come from other 4 speakers. Concert DVD's are great tho. So I learned the importance of the center spk and Axiom will handle my upgrade smoothly, I'm sure. The VP150 is great for my HT. It gets plenty of workout with the cable tv as well. I am very pleased with it.

I agree with the "adequate" statement. That's why I upped to 80's and may up to a EP600.

When I originally got my setup I got M22s, a VP100 and QS8s. I then changed my mind and upgraded to the VP150. NOT because there was anything wrong with the VP100, but because I wanted to avoid upgradeitis and futureproof my setup for when I move to a larger apartment/house. The only difference I noticed between the two speakes is the VP150 is longer. Sound quality was not markedly different.
