http://www.audioholics.com/news/editorials/DenonAVRReceivers.php

Just what I was needing. The old HK AVR300 has some issues in the DTS mode. Some static and bad sound problems. Sometimes sounds like a speaker is blown in the DTS mode, but if you rewind and play the part that sounded bad sometimes it wil play normal. In the DolbyDigital it works fine. I also wanted to use the Dolby Pro Logic IIx – with Cinema, Music, Game Modes, which my unit does not have. I will still be using the pre-outs to the amplifier, at least to the fronts and center. I would like to experiment with using the onboard amp for surrounds and the more powerful amplifier for the fronts and center. I like the AVR-1906 for the price.

If anyone has seen any good pre-amps for the same price I would be interested in those as well.

I hope they're better than Denon's older budget receivers that had overly optimistic power ratings.

However, then you have this test done by the same site that says differently. I wish more sites did measurements, it's hard to trust HCC when they deliver such conflicting results.

edit: the avr-1506 is rated for 7x75 = 525 overall watts and weighs less than 22 lbs. Funny people.

Interesting!

However, one should ask oneself when was the last time, that you can remember, that you received MORE than you paid for?

Just something to think about.

Well I think I did pretty good with the M80ti's. Yamaha has some reasonably priced receivers I could use as preamps/processors as well. Money has recently become more of an issue for me, it is now more important to get the most for the dollar.

During my searches I did find a nice little 2 channel 140w@8ohms power amp from Onkyo the M-282 for $230. Sounds too good to be true, I need an amp for another system I am setting up in my bedroom. 2 15" Cerwin Vegas should pump out plenty of Barry White. HK does not even make power amps anymore, they are all integrated amps. Seems like it would be easy for them to put out some 2/5/7 channel amplifiers.

I wish Hk/Denon made a preamp/processor. Seems like they could produce one at a really good price if they did not have to put the amplifiers in there. I am thinking about HK635 without the amps for $500or a Denon AVR3805 for $500. I dont want to spend more than $500 with taxes shipping everything.

I am looking at Onkyo now, time consuming process it be.

Vanns has the M-828 at $220 free freight.

I notice they have it rated at 105 watts @ 8, 120 @ 6, so maybe 135 @ 4.

Ubid has a Denon AVR885 (2105) @ $389 plus 1 cent freight.

biggsly5000, where are you finding the Denon or HK for $500?

You can find HK at CC, Target online, ubid, amazon etc. Also check the HK ebay store. The models with lower power ratings are under $500 or close to it. http://stores.ebay.com/Harman-Audio

Where can you find the Denon 3805 for around $500??

I don't think I was too clear in my post. I was saying I would like the for someone like Denon or HK to make a pre-amp for about $500 without the amplifers built in.

The cheapest I have seen the 3805 is for $824.00 and this is Bstock. http://search.stores.ebay.com/search/search.dll?query=3805&srchdesc=y&sid=67875002&store=DAKMART+DENON+AUTHORIZED+UNIDEN&colorid=4&fp=0&st=1&fsoo=1&fsop=3

There was a report covering a recent Denon show where they commented that Denon was going to offer separates. None were shown at the show and no other information was given.

Interesting notion, however.

Haven't seen one that cheap. Cheapest I seen was 699 several months back. Ubid has a 885 (2805) for 349.
