I've been playing around with the H/K 635 this morning and noticed the EZ setup had the the center cross-overed at 120hz and the left and right surrounds at 150hz with the mains crossed at 60hz. I changed the center and surrounds to 100hz and really didn't notice *that* much of a difference. I'm running the 80s for the mains being driven by the Rotel amp through the 635, I'm curious to know what most of you folks have for your 5.1 system cross-over settings

Currently I......

Cross the mains at 60.

Cross the inverted vertical M3 center at 60 to keep the voices out of the sub. And because it seems a bit more full(er)-range

Cross the M3 surrounds at 60 cause they seem to produce a little more bass thata way.

Mains are crossed at 60 Hz, center at 100, surrounds at 100. Oh yeah, that's M50s, VP100, and QS4s.

Wonder why I'm using such a low crossover with the 50s...

M60 mains crossed over at 80, VP100 and QS8s crossed over at 100. M2 rears are crossed over at 100 as well but they don't care cause I haven't got around to wiring 'em yet ;(

With the Denon I have everything x-over @ 80. Maybe 60 would be a better fit for the M22s?

I've experimented a bit with different settings and rotate around sometimes to hear the differences. These are my current settings...

M80s 60hz (small)
VP150 80hz (small)
QS8s 80hz (small)

I've also kept the VP150 and QS8s at 100hz and also had the M80s at 60hz and large.

Can anyone hear tell me the difference between setting the M80s to 60hz-large compared to 60hz-small? If my crossover is set to 60hz, whether they are set to small or large the cross will still be 60hz. So what is the big difference?

With most receivers, setting crossover to 60 hz and speaker size to Large means that the main speakers get all frequencies, while frequencies below 60 hz also go to the sub.

Setting to 60 Hz and Small sends everything above 60 Hz to the mains and everything below 60 Hz to the sub. Of course the filters actually roll off, so some signal above 60 goes to the sub and some signal below 60 goes to the mains.

On some receivers setting 60 Hz and Large means "Large wins, ignore the crossover frequency"
