Ok guys, the room size is about 14x14 with 9ft ceilings.

The green boxes in the picture are the ones I have a question about. Does that look like a good place for the sub? Also, how far back and to the side should the surrounds be? Thanks guys.

Generally, you want the surrounds on either side of your listening position in a 5.1 setup. As far as the sub goes, placing it in the corner will create more bass but possibly make it sound boomy... I would take a look at this article Crawling for bass and this article Home theater layout. Also, I would take a look at the newsletter section of the website... there are some really great articles there.

i had my qs8's about 6" behind my head in my last house. and it was fine, just get an spl meter, with one of those, you can fix any placement issues, remember you can change the level, delay of all of your speakers, with a good receiver... so even with poor placement the receiver can make up for that short coming, of reality..

You will want to take this into consideration. The part about square rooms especially. Most likely, you’re going to have to try several positions to find the perfect place for the subwoofer. I think crawling for bass is going to be your best bet.

New, although a corner location for a sub often gives both the strongest and smoothest bass, when the room is square this can create a problem, as has already been mentioned. The room mode for both the length and the width at about 40Hz(560/14)will be overemphasized and a smoother response is likely to result if the sub is moved out of the corner more nearly to the middle of one of the walls, e.g. inside one of the M22s or along the wall to the left or right of the listening position.

The QS8s should be a couple of feet behind the listening position and separated as widely as possible, since they are side, not back, surrounds in a 5.1 setup. Experiment, and good listening.

I guess I will just have to move the sub around to see what sounds best. Will problly end up moving it in between the TV and the M22.

On a funny side note. Last night i had my credit card out and was a click away from ordering the speakers. I was just about to when I realized I havent started to pay off the TV yet. This stuff is like drugs! lol

dude you can rain on my parade anytime New2Axiom as mentioned, click on the Store link at the top, and on that page there is a Factory Outlet link. These speakers are every bit brand new like the regular stock. Axiom's quality control process in manufacturing is very picky, so if a speaker has even a microscopic blemish or nick, off the the FO it goes. Technically, they are the same and have the same warranty. I had a poll awhile back to try to find out how many people take this route, and it appears the majority do. I'm still trying to find what is wrong with my speakers.

Thanks. Just from what I have read around here, it looks like I should have ordered from the FO as well. Unfortunately, I thought 13 weeks, or whatever it was at the time, was too long to wait. Most people say that it only takes a fraction of the time offically posted.

Just to clarify, any difference between regular stock, and factory outlet stock would be cosmetic only; a small nick somewhere, a flaw in the vinyl veneer, something like that. It took me two weeks of intense searching to find the flaws (in the vinyl) on my M60s, and they were so subtle that, unless one was looking for them, they'd never be noticed.

Returned speakers are NOT sold through the Factory Outlet. F.O stock and regular stock will perform identically. The only significant downside to ordering from the F.O. is the longer wait for them to ship. When you're eager for something to arrive 6 weeks (my wait time - yours may be different) can seem like an eternity.

Cool, looks like I will be getting them from the factory Outlet then.

My question now is, what do I do with the wires from the surround speakers? We are on a cement slab, (no basement). Is it possable to run the wires under the carpet? Who would I contact about doing that? Im not good at that kinda thing. Keep in mind that the surrounds will be on stands. Thanks

If you have baseboards around the perimeter of your room you can hide the wires between the carpet and baseboards. Just a suggestion...

That's what I am going to do when I purchase the QS8's/stands. There will be some wire showing, but what the hell. Until I get into a house with a dedicated home theatre room, I'll make do...

Okay, probably the best way to do this will be to run the wire around the baseboard until you are as close to the speaker as you can get. Then you will need a wire pulling rod.... they can be pretty expensive because usually you have to buy them in sets that connect to make rods up to 30' length, but you can just buy one of these from ebay... Then you will need to make a VERY small hole in the carpet and push the rod under the carpet and possibly the carpet pad (that way the wire wont show as much). Push the wire pulling rod under the carpet and/or pad towards the baseboard where the wire is... attach the wire to the rod and pull. Just search google for "Wire Pulling Rods" and you will be able to find more rods... if you need more than 8 feet then you will probably have to buy a set of fiberglass rods that screw into each other extending the length up to 30'.

You can also buy speaker wire that is flat, for running under carpeting, that is what I did in my old house. When we moved, I just left it there for the next person.

There are many manufacturers that make this, including the all mighty Monster, I think I used Belkin.

thanks hopkin and sirquack. now if i wanted to go with the flat wire would i still need those rods to push the flat wire under the carpet.

also, instead of buying those rods, could i contact someone that has them like an electrician or something and have him do it like that? Are there like, "Home theater electricians" or what? Thanks for listening to my stupid questions, lol.

In my past home, we put the flat wire down, before they installed the carpet/pad. I think I even put duct tape over it to help protect it some more. You have to remember, when people are going to be walking over the top of these locations. Personally, I'm not a big fan of running any wiring where there could by high traffic areas. I the wiring gets damaged you have to remove the carpeting to fix it.

Another option you might consider is http://www.cableorganizer.com They make low profile cable raceway's or sometimes called wiremold. I bought some 1/2" x 1.5" material to run my Component/HDMI cables across the ceiling to my projector. It is white and paintable. They make various sizes designed to go along walls/corners/ceilings. Just another idea. Home Depot and other stores also offers similar products in their electrical aisle. They have adhesive backing and a latching enclosure to hide the wires. Then you could mount the surrounds to the ceiling
