all axiom fan ,i want to know if is a difference between componant to componant , or componant to dvi-i, i mean componant from my denon dvd to dvi-i or componant on my z2 projector. now im in componant to componant 480p, if i use componant to dvi-i, can i upgrade to 780p or not be able to do it !!!!!!!.

I can't comment on a Component-DVI cable as I've never used one. I can tell you when using component, the digital signal from the DVD player has to be first converted from "Digital to Analog" and then when it gets to the tv/projector, it gets converted back from "Analog to Digital". When using a HDMI or DVI or HDMItoDVI cable the signal is Digital all the way, no conversion.

Eric, I may not have followed your question completely, but if you're asking if the component outputs on your 1710 can be connected to the DVI input on your Z2 the answer is no(the components are analog; the DVI is digital), but there wouldn't be any reason to do so. Your Z2 is a 720p projector and regardless of what comes in it has to use 720 pixels and progressive scan to show a picture, so it would convert an interlaced input signal to progressive and would scale a 480 input to 720. DVD is 480i and your 1710 can either output it as 480i or can de-interlace it to 480p. In either case your Z2 is going to show it as 720p. Now nothing can make a 480 resolution into an actual 720 resolution, but the picture should look pretty good. So the way you're set up now is the best that you can get out of 480i DVDs. One thing that you can try, though is to turn the progressive scan on the 1710 off to see if the Z2 does a better job of changing interlaced to progressive than the 1710 does.

I have the Z2, it will sense the incoming signal and adjust for anything between 480i upto 1080i. My Panasonic DVD player has a better scaler so I don't use the Z2's scaler. There is an option in the menu to turn it on/off. When using Component cables the highest signal you can send the Z2 is 480P, which look fabulous. If you have a scaler like DVDO, HTPC, or an upconverting DVD player, you can send a 720p or 1080i signal via DVI or a HDMI/DVI cable and enjoy an improved picture. HD signals via an HD Tuner look jaw dropping. Below are some DVD's sent via a 25ft Component cable at 480P. First is Napoleon Dynamite which is a 1.85 aspect ratio movie, and second is Star Wars II which is a 2.35 Cinemascope movie. Both are shown on my 2.35 10ft wide DIY screen.

Eric, just to re-emphasize the point, the Z2 is a 720p display device. If it gets an interlaced input it always has to convert it to progressive before it can show it. Likewise, if it gets something other than 720 coming in it has to add(or subtract)pixels to make it fit its 720 display. A 480 DVD output scaled to 720(by either the player or the projector)doesn't have the resolution of a "real" 720 source, but as Randy points out, it can look very good.
