If you have your satellite or cable TV connected through your receiver, then that's the only way you'll be able to watch TV. If your cable or satellite bx has multiple inputs, you could try wiring it straight to the TV so you don't have to turn on the receiver.

yup. that is exactly what i found out with my pioneer too. it has to be on for the video to pass through...your cable/satellite box SHOULD have multiple outs though...so use the svideo directly to your tv, and the component to your receiver. problem should be solved, other than having to switch your source on the tv

why not have the equpt turned on? you spend good money for it, enjoy it..

just not understanding why you would spend XXX$ on nice stuff, then not use it...

To use the TV without the receiver, I connected the video/audio signal to the TV and then run the digital audio out from the TV to the receiver. The downside is you don’t get on-screen menus from the receiver, but I don’t find this to be a problem since the 3805 has a pretty good display.

Not using the receiver is a nice option when 1) the wife is video gaming for hours with the sound off anyway and 2) when you don’t want to bother visitors, babysitters, etc with all the complexities of operating the whole system.

Thanks all for the help.
I ended up running everything almost like I used to have it. Cable directly to the TV via HDMI/DVI (video quaility seems to be a tad bit better. I ran the DVD to the receiver via component video then from the receiver to the tv that way I do get on screen display. I just have to change the video source on the TV to see the OSD.
Now for the fun (hard) part trying to figure out everything on this new receiver. I have til mid December before my speakers get here.
