Hi gang,
If you are using the Denon 3805 is it necessary to use a pre amp for running the m80's? How does it sounds with and without a pre amp? I have the 60's on order from the FO but I am seriously thinking about going with the 80's.

Clarence, of course a pre-amp is part of the 3805 already. If what you mean is whether to use separate amps instead of at least some of the 3805's internal amps, this shouldn't be necessary in most cases unless the listening is at extremely loud levels at a long distance in a very large room. The 3805 is quite powerful.

Hi,
If I got you right, you are using the 3805 connected to the M80s correct? In which case, you would not need another 'preamp' as the receiver itself would have a pre-amp stage through which the input is fed on it's way to the power-amp stage and the 80s. According to what I hear, the 3805 has a pretty decent pre-amp stage. Hope this helps. Thanks.

I use the 3805 to power surrounds and back in 6.1. I added monoblocks across the fronts for my 80s and 150. I listen at reasonable levels. The Denon has plenty of power but I like the sound of my 80s with the monoblocks.

I had 60s first and upgraded. I didn't have to. I could afford to. I didn't have to get a 500, I just wanted it. (The 600 didn't pass WAF)

I have more than I need but I am a happy camper!

Did you listen to the M80's without the monoblocks? How did th4ey sound without it? Is there a big difference?

I used the Denon only for first couple of months and was satisfied. I wondered what difference amps would make so I ordered the monoblocks on 30-day trial to listen for myself. IMHO the 80's sound better with the monoblocks at low volume. At mid to high volume it only gets better. Is it dramatic? My ears say so. Others say it's in my head. That's why I say the 30-day trial is a great thing.

Doug,
I have all my speakers on order form the FO. M60's QS8, Vp150, EP500. They are due to arrive next month. I have the need to upgrade and the M60's are the only thing I would like to upgrade. How much for the Outlaw and where do you buy it?
Thanks

Outlaw Audio

Outlaw also makes a 200(watt @ 8 ohm) x 5 (7500) and 200 x 7 (7700) due out soon. They use a common power supply as opposed to the monoblocks. The current 200 watt models are sold out while waiting for the new models.

I had the M80's on the 3805 alone for around six months. I sounded really good except at insanely high volumes, when the sound started getting distorted.

With the Sunfire (I will be testing a C272 over the weekend), they sound much better at all volume levels. The overall volume level of the setup went up too (Maybe the 3805 being freed of the 4 Ohm load and having more power for everything else).

Again, the setup sounded very sweet with the 3805 alone, it was the best I have heard at the time. It just sounds better with dedicated power to the M80's.
