I just received my Epic Grandmaster 350 and have hooked everything up. I had read how great the Yamaha automatic setup was and so I ran it but was surprised with the results. It wanted to run all speakers large and it set the bass crossover at 40.

I had expected the fronts to be set to small, the center large and the surrounds small with bass crossover at 60 or 80.

I'd appreciate any input as to how others have their speakers set. Thanks.

I have all my speakers set "Large" and the crossover at 80Hz. That is a personal preference, and is probably appropriate for my HT room and sounds good to my ears. Depending on what kind of setup you have, you may have to play around a bit to find what sounds best to you.

I would not recommend that setup, not sure why your Yammy came up with those settings. Before I ran the setup on my Denon, I set the crossover at 80hz, which is the post popular all around.

I would not set the M22's, VP150, or your Q's to large. I would set them all to Small, and start with 80hz. Most likely it will work great. Some people like 60hz for music, but I've found that 80hz works best for me. You don't want to set the crossover below your speakers Freq. Response specs.

SH, the 2600 can do a fine job with auto-calibration, but a little user input can make it even better. The auto process tends to set speakers where they're capable of operating, but this might not necessarily be the very best setting. In particular, it's a good idea to have speakers set "small" and with a 80Hz crossover even if they have good response to lower frequencies; instead let the sub handle what it does best and take part of the load off of the speakers and the receiver amps. Study your manual and you'll notice that in the auto-setup menu you can set it to "skip" some of the measurements. Skip the speaker "size" measurement and instead manually set all speakers "small" with an 80Hz crossover, as the manual specifically suggests for THX speakers.

Also, don't be concerned if the distance measurement for the sub would come out longer than the actual physical distance. A delay in the sub amp's processing could cause its sound to arrive as if the sub was actually farther away. Some users have misinterpreted this as an error, but it's actually more accurate(trust your 2600, not your tape measure).
