I am not going to be allowed permanently put surrounds on my back wall - verboten. I am considering buying some speakers which are put in the tv cabinet and are taken out and put on the floor when when watching movies - this being the case, I am reluctant to pay for proper axiom surrounds.

Does anybody have any recommendations for cheaper, ideally smaller surrounds which might suit?

Has anybody tried this approach ( when combined with M60s) and regretted it?

How about the Axiom surrounds on stands? I don't think any surround is going to sound good sitting on the floor.

What is the distance to the back wall?

What about in-wall or in-ceiling?

I built stands for my first pair of QS8s. When not in use I coiled up the speaker wire on 2 posts I had put on the bottom and tucked the whole assemblage away behind my mains.
It was a little bit of a hassle, but they were always optimally placed.
That sounds like a good compromise, if you can swing it.

Not sure why you would want to try this approach? I would get tired of dragging any surround, big or small, and trying to get the proper placement/calibration each time. Besides, the floor would be the last place I would put them, you want them above your ears, not below. Also, you would have to worry about wrapping up the speaker wires each time, what a pain.

Repeating yourself is a sign of old age Randy.

Yep, I remembered double clicking, but by the time I went back to Edit/Delete one of them it was to late....oh well

Funny the Mrs. just had her 38th B'day on GroundHogs Day, now she is as old as I, but that will only last until May.

I believe the original poster will not be allowed to mount the surrounds to a wall, Quack.
The stands were a pain, but not all that bad.
Calibration wasn't important as they were placed in the same spot each time.
I have mine on the rear wall now; too far away, but hassle free.
