I realized that the tweeters in my VP150 are not working right. Axiom is sending out replacements which will reach me monday. I was trying to remove the tweeters in the speaker, i removed all the screws but the panel holding the tweeter would not come off the speaker. Now the tweeter has fallen inside the speaker and the pannel is stuck firmly on the speaker.

I tried to yank of the pannel by applying some preasure using a screw driver, but no luck. Am also hesistant to apply lots of pressure fearing damage to the speakers.

Any tips greatly appreciated.

From what I remember, there are some screws around the outside of the speaker which hold the front plate to the baffle, and another set of screws on the inside which hold the magnet assembly to the front plate.

I'm guessing you took out the outside screws, found the speaker was stuck, and then took out the inside screws ?

It's the outside screws that you need to remove...

EDIT -- from what I remember, you don't need to worry about the magnet falling down inside -- the voice coil and connectors are all on the front plate; the "back part" is just the magnet. You will want to reach inside and get the magnet out when you get the front plate off, of course

At first glance, it seems unlikely that both tweeters are having a problem. If replacing the tweeters doesn't help, don't despair -- my first guess would be a bad solder joint on the crossover...

Yup u r right, but anybody on how i could remove the front plate, it seems to be firmly stuck on to the speaker.

bridgman,

Bare with me, am a novice when it comes to speakers except that i enjoy some good music.

Can you please tellme where exactly the cross over is located, and how easy is it to get to it, does every driver , tweeter have a crossover?

THe crossover is normally fastened to the back panel on the inside, although I'm not 100% sure where it is on a VP150. There is one crossover per speaker box -- it separates the high frequencies from the low frequencies. The binding posts on the back of the speaker are connected to the crossover, then wires run from the crossover to the woofers and tweeters. Don't worry about that for now

The only good way to get a stuck speaker out is to remove a speaker that ISN'T stuck (ie one of the woofers, hopefully) then push the stuck speaker out from the back.

Remember that with the magnet off there is nothing protecting the tweeter guts from being poked out from behind, so don't push unless it feels like you are pushing on a flat plate

Better yet, call or email Axiom before even trying my advice. They provide great support over a surprisingly wide range of times.
