I am planning on purchasing Axiom M3ti's as my back surrounds for my new home theatre when it's finished this fall but am getting itchy to hear how they sound. Currently in my familyroom I have a Bose Acoustimass 6 set-up where everything is hooked up through the bass module. Does anyone know if you can replace the left and right front speakers with the Axioms and leave the balance of the system operating, or do you have to dissconnect the whole Bose system and just have the Axioms hooked-up? Yes I'm sure the 2 Axioms will sound better than the whole Bose system but for right now I would like to leave the balance of the Bose system in place in the familyroom if possible. Thanks.
You should be able to connect the M3's and leave the rest of your Bose, just don't connect the M3's through the bass module. Connect the M3's directly to your receiver where you want them to output.
If your talking surrounds, why not consider the Qs4 or Qs8's, which are designed for the surround effects?
These will be the back surrounds where I understand a more direct firing speaker will give a better sence of focus. I will be using Qs8's for side surrounds and M60's or 80's for fronts. I guess it's debatable about what to use for rear's but with these I can also use them as fronts upstairs until the basement is finished :-)
HomeDad Thanks for the reply. That is what I plan on doing but I thought I had read somewhere that the Acoustimas system won't work if all speakers are not connected. Just wondering! I'll give it a try.
If your in the sweet spot that is true, personally, I prefer 4 qs8's.
They are great for music as well.

You can use Bose speakers for any position as long as you use the acoustimas connection for the Bose. I used the surrounds only in a system for a long time.
I will be used M3's for back surrounds with QS 8's as side surrounds too. I actually listened to John and took his advice on this set up. If it doesn't work, I'll just blame him.
But even if it doesn't, I've got lots of rooms for the M3's to reside.
If you think about it though, I don't think you'd actually have to be in the sweet spot Randy. Aren't all DVDs in 5.1 or 6.1 anyway? So no matter what, you are going to get the same sound from both back speakers wouldn't you??
Just oredered the M3's in Boston Cherry through the factory outlet so I have about a 5 week wait until I get to hear my first pair of Axioms. My only concern is that my wife (not an audiofile by any stretch of the imagination) will be blown away by the sound compared to the Bose. Then my problem becomes trying to convince her I need to spend roughly 4 times the money for the 80's for the home theatre! I may even forget to mention the need for the side surrounds as well.
Congrats on your purchase, mabey once your wife hears the M3's she will give you the nod for more
You may have to do a blind test. She may never see past the size of the cube vs. M3.

Meddy, years ago, I had a Bose Acoustimass system, and was floored that so much sound could come from such a small system. Then, after living with them for a while, I realized that something was missing ... the entire midrange. The Bose have highs and some mid bass. I then slid head first down the slippery slope of audio upgraditis, and got a pair of Infinity Composition Overture 3s (almost $3000 MSRP for 2), Infinity CCsomething center and Infinity RS4s in surround duty. I then picked up a pair of Axiom M3Tis for a 2 channel system, and realized that these (then) $275 speakers just BLEW AWAY my expensive Infinities which in their turn BLEW AWAY the long gone Bose system.
The M3s are true audiophile speakers ... world class. The Bose speakers are not. If there is some way you could put the M3s in the front L/R positions, you would be doing yourself a great favor.
Good luck with your M3s, they are truly special speakers ... I would go so far as to say they are my favorite Axioms.
Mike, actually when DPLIIx is applied to a 5.1 or 6.1 movie different material can be sent to the back left as compared to the back right surround. Sound equally strong in the left and right side channels represents something which is supposed to be imaged at the center back, so it's extracted from the sides and sent equally to the two back speakers. Sound a little stronger in the left side channel is sent more loudly to the left back speaker than the right back speaker and images at the left back; similarly right back imaging is created.
No question at all! The M3s are MY favorite speakers for music. For home theater; the M50s fill the job!!
.......cuz the 50s sound a lot like my M3s!
