I recently purchased a Pioneer VSX-1015tx to get my HT going. I ran into a problem with my wife when I decided to go with the M80s as my mains, so I decided to go with the M22s with a SVS 16-46+ Sub to start and ease into it a bit.

Now, my question. I still have the M80s on my list for my mains, so I was wondering, what would be a good crossover point on the M22s while I am using them as my mains in the initial 2.1 setup? I was thinking of setting them to Small and doing a crossover of 80.

Next, when I do get my VP 150 and then my M80s(in that order), I was going to move the 22s to my surrounds. How will the 22s perform in a Surround capacity?

If you need more info from me, please ask. My room size is 15x12x12 with an open doorway (5x12) in one corner and an open stairway wall on the same side.

Thank you.

Welcome Thadar,

First of all the 1015x is a great AVR, nice choice. However, long term I would make sure you find other 1015x owners to make sure the 4ohm 80's won't be a problem. Many AVR's can't handle the 4ohm load and will go into protection mode. Generally Denon's, HK, and a few others won't have problems.

For that room, I would heavily consider the m60's as a choice also. My room is much bigger than that, at 30ft x 30ft x 9ft, and the 60's have no problem.

The 22's will do great, especially combined with a sub. I think your correct in using a Small setting with a 80hz crossover on the receiver ,and bypass on the sub crossover. Actually, that is what most of use with 60's and 80s in a 5.1 or 7.1 setup.

Are you planning on a 5.1 or 7.1 setup for the future. In my opinion, the Qs8's or Qs4's would be a better choice for the left/right surround channels. They really are hard to beat, especially compared to bookshelves. Now, you could use the 22's for the left/right rear channels, since not as much surround effects come from those channels. Also, for music the 22's would be killer for the back channels.

Talk to ya later....

Since I am piecing this set together, I will be moving from a 2.1 to a 3.1 to a 5.1 and eventually to a 7.1. So, you are suggesting moving the M22s to the L/R surrounds initially at the 5.1 stage and then purchasing the QS8s as the L/R Surrounds and moving the M22s to the rear surrounds when I move up to 7.1?

Thad, another welcome. Yes, that's what Randy is suggesting, and I'd agree.

I use M22's as my mains with the C/O set at 80Hz. The Double Deuces sound great at that setpoint. I have them blended with the sub pretty well and you can't hear them tail off before the sub takes over, just a nice smooth transition that you don't notice unless you know what you are listening for. Their freq. response is just about to start dropping at 80 so you wouldn't want to cross over any lower than that.
