how am I supposed to connect the EP500 to an integrated amp with no bass management?

if I were to use the speaker level ins, I lose the benefit of cutting the low frequencies to my bookshelf speakers ... they try to play the full frequency before rolling off, if so, at what frequency do I set the EP500 crossover to if my bookshelf's +-3db rating is up to 60hz.

Mike, take a look at this sub set-up guide. Shows multiple ways of hooking up different systems. Hope it helps.

I *was* going to suggest an Outlaw ICBM but I see that this component is now discontinued. Maybe try Audiogon, Ebay or some other online auction site.

I would suggest start with 80Hz.

thanks for the link St_patguy

I cant get anything online because Im not in the US

tried the speaker full range, sub 80hz ... it was very localizable, moved it down to 60hz but will tweak again when I get the time.

No prob for the link. One of the hardest things to do, at least for me, is to integrate a sub into a stereo set-up. Takes a lot of time and patience--trying different placements and adjusting the crossover and gain. I am currently running two subs in a stereo set-up and prefer it over the single sub (even in my very small room 11x11). Hang in there.

Subs can be very frustrating but also very rewarding.

subs are DEFINITELY a necessity (even when I am 1 foot away from my front speakers- PC setup)

I have my hands tied in placement, and having 2 subs for the PC will be like signing my death warrant (from the wife) -and I most definitely cannot afford another EP500.

choosing between which sub I will use for my PC will also determine which amp/pre-amp/receiver I get for my PC. if I plan to use the EP500, I'm leaning towards getting an AV receiver to take advantage of the variable crossover and LFE output.

Mike, are you almost sitting right on top of your EP500? That may be why you are localizing it. With my old Klipsch PC set-up I had the sub right underneath in the computer cabinet and I was definitely able to localize it. If that is the case, I don't know what can be done to alleviate the problem.

I hear you about placement issues--whether it be furniture or significant others it is hard to place speakers where they sound best. Most of us just do the best we can and drool over the nice HT set-ups other members have!

If your needs require nearfield listening, you shouldn't need a whole lot of power and can look at inexpensive receivers. I haven't looked for a while, but most should have variable crossovers. At least, I hope. Maybe others can offer suggestions.

right now Im using another sub for the 2 channel duty but the principles/theories should be the same

I would drag the sub over, put a pillow on it and sit. Talk about a tactile response!

Hmm, ideally it would seem better to put the sub under the desk. Getting it as close to the speakers as possible would be beneficial. One problem, that is a huge sub! Maybe try placing it where the trash can is? Looks like you'll lose foot room, but try placing it there temporarily to see how it sounds. Sometimes there is no perfect solution. I rearranged my room once, just to try different placement options. But then again, I'm single and can get away with it.

it is huge ... huge enough to kill legspace if placed anywhere under the table. (I tried suggesting to the wife buying two small cheapo subs - but was threatened with a beating)

That in the picture is a Velodyne DLS 12 or 15?

over there it is the DLS-5000R (over here it is called CHT-15R)
