Hi

I am attracted to the Axiom speakers because of their reviews and (claimed) efficency.

I am planning to build a DIY tube amp, either a 15W EL84 or (preferred) a 8W 2A3 parallel single ended. I live is a smallish apartment.

Anyone had good experiences with this (or other) Axiom speakers and amps of this type?

Thanks Steve

Hello Vaughst
I have an Antique Sound Labs MGS1 15DT (5 watt per channel in triode) integrated tube amplifier which I used with a pair of Axiom M3tis and a little Velodyne 8" sub. This combination was magical! I moved over to a pair of M22 like Michaura M55s. This ASL 5 watt had no problem with the M3s and the mids were the best I've ever heard. The M55s are a bit more pleasant to my ears from the high end of the bass to the most extraordinarily extended highs I've heard, but the mids of the M3s are fuller and just incredible. The M55s are like the M22s (2 x 5.25" drivers and a .75" titanium tweeter instead of a 1" in the M22s). However, when I tried a pair of M22s in this system, I preferred the M3s, I may have gotten a pair of M22s which were abused by UPS or otherwise just not up to snuff.

Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with either the M3s or the M22s driven by a modestly powered tube amp.

Absolutely! IMHO, Axiom speakers (at least the M3ti) are best coupled with tube amp! the bass might not be as tight as ss amp, but the vocal is just ......... pure joy.

Good Luck.
