I know this may be an old subject, but I do find the M80's too bright on certain recordings. A good example is a cd I really like, Eagles - Hell Freezes Over. I like to play it pretty loud and it sounds wonderful, but some of the crowd noise is way too harsh. I saw Alan's comments about certain cd recordings and had never thought before that could be the culprit. But I also wonder if my Yamaha RX-V3000 could be a contributing factor. I have been thinking about getting either some monoblocks or a 2-channel amp just for the fronts anyway. I'd appreciate any opinions or comments.

I cannot comment on the brightness using the RX-V3000, I have the hell freezes over DVD. I am running the M80's on a Denon 5800 and I do not find brightness to be an issue. I normally play the DVD in PCM stereo not DTS. I would have to get the CD to compare and see if they sound very much different, I may just for interest do that. But again what we hear and like is such a matter of personal taste and preference that it is really difficult to quantify in such a statement. The only way for you to know whether it is the RX-V3000 that you are hearing this brightness from or if it is the speakers is to audition in your setting several components and then you decide what you like or don't like.

I'm not running Axiom speakers yet (I’m planning on getting some very soon), but I have the Eagles DVD, the music sounds really good the entire time, but in between songs the crowd in the surround speakers in way too loud in DTS mode. I’m not positive about in stereo, but I don’t think it had this problem as much in stereo. I’ll listen to it again with my speakers and my headphones and see how it is in stereo. Who ever mixed the DTS mix got a little excited with the crowd noise I think.

Try the PCM Stereo mode, I find that it is superior to the DTS track on this DVD. What I did not like in the DTS track is the vocals being output soley from the center channel speaker. The DTS track itself just does not sound right to me it seems hollow somehow. While the PCM track is very well done and allows me to set whatever sound mode I like from the receiver. So if I want to use Pure Direct, or DTS Neo 6 Music I can.

I am sure John means the fact that contrary to what the description says - " If your speakers are bi-wired, like the ones pictured below", the speakers are not connected that way, or ready to connect as bi-wired.

For that, the clip or bridge between the sets of binding posts must be removed.

That would also be true for bi-amping these speakers.

Yes, it has a wording error, perhaps it should read:
"If your speakers are bi-wirable"
Then it would make sense.
But if it works, who cares?
Many websites have these type of errors, quality sites included.
If it works (and that is still to be determined) then I will forgive them!

I thought he was referring to it looking like the insulation is under the caps. That can't make for a good connection.

Actually I am referring to both errors, at first I thought the bi-wiring thing was a typo, but then when I read it again, well no need to ramble, and if you are trying to sell yourself as a quality Upscale place as your name would imply then I think a little more attention to details would be prudent. And then I saw the insulation under the post caps and that just did it for me. Does not make them seem to credible does it? I know that I am just being anal about it, I just thought it would be interesting to see how many people noticed how many things were wrong with the picture.
