Just thought I'd give a recommendation for this album:

Rodrigo y Gabriela (CD & Bonus DVD) - from Amazon

From one of the Amazon reviews:
Quote:

the best Irish-Flamenco-Acoustic-Metal I've ever heard!

I hadn't heard of them until I saw them on the Tonight Show a couple weeks ago. They are from Mexico City and originaly had a metal band in the early 90s. They decided to change it up and decided to play accoustic guitar only. They sold all the extra gear and bought one-way tickets to Euroupe. After playing the streets and some venues in Ireland and Denmark for a few years, they returned to Mexico and recorded this album.

Every track on this CD is great. There are 2 covers; 'Stairway to Heaven', and 'Metallica's Orion'. The rest of the tracks are their own, and are equally great pieces, if not better. The sound quality of this CD is also very good, and will sound fantastic on your Axioms.

I'm kind of all over the place with my likes in music- but this was something new to me. It was seeing them play on the Tonight Show that sold me. They are both very talented and amazing to watch perform. Here is a performance from the David Letterman show:

Anyway, wether you are looking for some quality accoustic guitar, or maybe something a little different and up beat, or even just something that shows off the true to life sound of your Axioms- give this a try and you won't be dissapointed.
Wow, that youtube video is amazing!!!
O.o

Wow. Woooooooow....

That's what I thought and compelled me to look this one up. The best part is that the CD on Amazon is only $9.99. Great to get with some other items you may have been wanting so you can qualify for free super saver shipping.
Very cool. Reminded me of this:

Amazing, thanks for sharing this one with us Dave ... I believe I agree with Ken's assessment 'a gotta buy CD'!

That was really good.
Wow! That blew me away. Gotta go make a purchase now. . .
Nice! Thanks for sharing. I shall add it to my collection.
That reminded me of another youtube video. I never heard of this style before but I love the sound.

Dave, nice find! That was really something, I wish they had a music DVD out, I was as compelled watching them as listening to them.
Yeah, I have to say that while the music is nice, I think I'd be much more inclined to give it repeat plays if it was a DVD, or better yet, an HD DVD. Very impressive to see.
Well, I ordered their CD with the bonus DVD. I'm hoping the live performances on the DVD are as cool to watch. Only $10, though!
I just watched some of the DVD. While the CD is very good quality (and certainly worth the $10 on its own)- the DVD is not that great. The video is only standard film, and the cuts are too fast to really see their playing which is what it most intersting. I'm sure it was done on a low budget, but its certainly fine as a bonus. Hopefully with this albums success, there will be better video of their performances from here.

The DVD includes an interview segment that is about 22 minutes and tells their story. Just a caution on some of the language here; 3 live performances- Stairway to Heaven had the best audio 5.1 mix, the other 2 tracks weren't recorded/mastered as well; A still photo gallery; and a video tutorial of their guitar playing style. I didn't have time to watch much of the tutorial, but it did look pretty interesting.

I'm still loving the music on the CD- it's excellent and the album was produced very well.
Wassamatta?
No one likes the original acoustic guitar speed freaks?
Well, that almost gets me up to free shipping. I need one more.
I should warn people, fwi, that the particular disc I linked to is short.... 32 mins. if I remember right. I don't rate albums/discs by their length, but since I somewhat endorsed it, I should mention it's shortish "stature".

If you like their music, though, you may want to check out "Friday Night in San Fancisco" in redbook or in SACD. It's their best-known release.

Another option is The Guitar Trio.
Did someone say speed guitar?

Bren R.
I got it today, and I really do like it. It's a lot of fun. I liked the DVD, too. They seem like well-grounded, cool people, and I like their faces when they're playing. So yeah, I'm happy with the purchase!
To chime in--I listened to it over the weekend and absolutely loved it! Great recommendation. Haven't seen the DVD yet, though I am looking forward to it.

Well-recorded and well-played.
I received my copy today, too. I haven't had a chance to listen to more than than first two tracks on the Axioms, but I really liked what I heard.
I'm glad to hear you guys have liked it. After initially listening to the entire album a couple of times on the Axioms, I'm hooked. I can't get many of the tunes out of my head. I love the driving, upbeat rythms and great melodies. Amazing that 95% of what you are hearing is just the 2 of them on Accoustic guitar (no drums, no bass)- and it is recorded in live takes. I think I heard the only song that has an overdub is Orion.
I listened to the CD on my way in to work this morning. It was a long 7 miles on an icy road, but the music kept me grooving.
ummmm ya...

Gotta get this cd now...
I always like getting good recommendations for music of a genre that I have yet to venture into. I bought this CD/DVD yesterday and love it! Thanks for the recommendation Dave!
I'm pretty sure none of us has experienced this genre before since they pretty much defined it.
Now I've added it to my reminders/wishlist also.

I just couldn't take the peer pressure!
Freaking Amazing. I had my head 4 inches from the computer screen trying to watch the gals hand movements and figure out what the hell she was doing and how she did it all at once.

I'll be shopping for this CD.
This CD is audio crack. Beware. You cannot stop listening to it.

Peter- I agree 100%. There's nothing else quite like this out there. They are just outstanding musicians and I simply enjoy the energy in the music. Same reason I like Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

No doubt! Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Murph- Check out the tutorial on the bonus DVD. It's done pretty well and she demonstrates the technique slowly so you can see it. That triplet strum is awesome. After understanding what she is actually doing, I am all the more awestruck by her talent. There is no way to really see it via the youtube videos, just too small and I don't think the framerate is fast enough to see it anyways.

You're welcome David. More than happy to share and glad you are enjoying it.
Flecktones! I like your taste in music. If you've never seen them live, jump at your first chance.
This disc is incredible. Just got to Orion.

Unfortunately, now my wife is mad at me for not drilling through the wall, setting up the Marantz and M50s and letting her listen to it. Ooopsie... Soooo... anyone want to come over and help me move all the furniture out of that room and paint it?
Heh. I'm free tomorrow.

Although I'm gettick sick.
Sadly, I'm not!
You had your chance.
D'oh!
You and Stevie must have some sort of link. He's sick, too.
Glad to hear you are enjoying the disc Ken. Orion is great, one of my favorites. Lately I've really enjoyed Juan Loco, but really all the tracks are fantastic.
OK, I can't stop listening to this. Now I'm doing it non-stop in the car on my iPod.

What recs do you guys have for similar guitar on vinyl? I'm on my vinyl kick and looking to add to my collection.
Unfortunately I don't have any recs for vinyl, I gave it all up a long time ago. But I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the RyG.

I did the same thing as you, just like Peter warned

Doh! It has been removed due to "terms of use violation" smirk

I was looking forward to checking it out...
Here we go... 6.5 million views on YouTube wink

They are fantastic musicians aren't they. Wow, has it really been over 3 years? The 2nd album titled "11:11" by Rodrigo y Gabriela is excellent too.
Wow, this was quite an old thread, no wonder it was removed
That was good. Looks like a little flamenco and a little classical, especially what looks and sounds like all nylon strings.
Yep. It's the best Irish-Flamenco-Acoustic-Metal I've ever heard!
Ah, they're very emphatic that it's not flamenco. All the rest of that, sure.
I figure they must be androids... no other explanation for moving their fingers that fast and accurately. Just amazing!
Rodrigo y Gabriela are just fantastic. I have all three of their disks: eponymous, 11:11, and Live in Japan, and really enjoy all three. At least two of them come with DVDs that I enjoyed as well.

I saw them live a couple of years back and it was just amazing. It was outdoors, beautiful weather, I was real close to the stage, and the performance was so much fun.
