Alright, I saw this post about outdoor speakers:

Outdoor Speakers

I understand that they are not available yet. I seem to remember there being a picture of the outdoor speakers sitting on the ground near some patio furniture. I am working on boosting the WAF ahead of the availability of the speakers and am proposing that they be used sitting on the ground rather than hung from a bracket. A picture of such a situation would boost my credibility with the wife.

If anyone knows where I can find this picture that would be great. If no one knows what the hell I'm talking about, I'll just go back to my rubber room.

Thanks.

Krich,

Note as well that the picture is of the WIRELESS outdoor speakers, which contain a rechargeable battery pack and receiver for the stereo audio signals, so no speaker cable or power source is required. The battery pack will deliver about 15 to 20 hours of operating time at medium volume before recharging is required.

We are also introducing conventional outdoor speakers that are an outdoor version of the Axiom bookshelf M3v2. You'd need to connect a speaker cable from an amplifier in your home to operate those. Obviously, they'll be less costly than the wireless self-powered models.

I've already done listening tests to the conventional M3-type outdoor prototype (compared to its indoor M3 bookshelf model) and the outdoor version sounds excellent.

Regards,

Alan, what makes an outdoor speaker "outdoor"? Can they be left outside during winter (a Northern winter, not a Florida winter )? Are they waterproof? Can I take them in the pool with me for a little Esther Williams synchronized swimming?

Jack,

Believe it, or not....a Florida winter is ALMOST as bad....trust me.
Salt air, rain, temperatures as low as the 20's (sometimes) mold, etc, etc, etc.

Thanks Alan. I'm torn between the wireless and wired speakers. There is, presumably, a base station in the house to send the signal to the wireless speakers. What kind of distance, through walls, can we expect? It would be pretty cool to have the base station in my AV rack upstairs.

I was planning on running some wire out there in the next few weeks. I guess I'll go ahead and do it since I'm not sure what my plan is at this point. And even if I don't use the wire, the next owner might.

BTW, the wife didn't go for the floorstanding M3-ish look. Wonder if the wireless capabilities will sell her on it.

As posted above, a more specific statement as to the outdoor capabilities of these speakers would be great.

Thanks!
