Today I took delivery of some Vandersteen 1Cs, courtesy of a fortunate find on eBay. These happened to be in excellent shape with nice mahogany colored endcaps. As some of you may know, I love trying new things and Vandersteens have always been on my "list." No, I didn't exactly need new speakers, but need and want are often very disparate factors in this hobby.

Now, Vandersteen speakers may not win any beauty contests, but they are an interesting speaker in that the tweeter and woofer are basically without a baffle hidden inside an outer sock, or grill. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to try them. I've also read many good things about them and wanted to hear for myself.

I don't have much time on them at all, but I will do a proper write-up in due time. I like to put speakers through their paces before giving a detailed examination. So far, I really like what I hear out of these guys. Hopefully they can continue to impress.

I'll include pics, too.

Just don't include any pics in which you try to baffle us with how you're wearing one of your socks.

Cool! I read through others reviews of speakers and find myself wondering how they might compare to what I have. Unfortunately I don't have any money for more toys.

Yeah, I keep foolishly spending all of my big money on Axiom gear instead of distributing it among all of the different companies I'd like to try.

I'll at least do it with style. Argyle, all the way. . .

So true, Fred. It's the curse of this hobby. I'm always browsing around looking at prices and reading reviews.

Thankfully the only speakers I really want to go out of my way to hear are the Linkwitz Lab Orions, and they're out of my price range. At least for now. I may try to self-assemble some as a project with my dad one day to save some money. But that's years away considering how tied up my finances are for quite a while.

Yeah, I would like to hear some of those some day. Pricey indeed. If I was better at making things I might seriously consider the DIY approach. Then you gotta worry about amplification for those things. . .

Yeah, they're definitely not for the faint of heart. I wonder if anyone has tried approaching him about licensing his designs in order to mass-produce more affordable versions.

I hide from such possibilities as a means of protecting my meager checking account as well as my marriage... but congrats, Sean!

Ken, I will allow you to live vicariously through me!

Relax, this shouldn't be too painful. . .

I just skimmed a couple reviews of the 1Cs, and they seem like they'd be something to hear. I look forward to more detailed thoughts from you.

I've been thinking of going the DIY route with a set of these but it won't be for sometime.

New toys are fun, enjoy.

The Model 5A looks good (specs too!).
I might yet opt to buy a house instead... ;\)
