ok, will try and make this easy \:\) i am going to try and diagram my listening position in reference to the axioms and i would like thoughts about it:

axiom(in bookcase)--------------------------------axiom(bookcase)
|
|
|
^4 feet ^4feet
-- computer desk
^shelf Monitor

me(chair)

the monitor sits on the top shelf of the computer desk. looking straight ahead, the monitor is right between the axioms, thus "blocking" whatever sound is in the middle. i cannot move the monitor down lower to hear the difference by myself, so i cant do a quick and dirty on the sound difference.

any thoughts?

well, the drawing did not work...move the lines from "4 feet" to shelf monitor to the middle of the dotted lines between axiom in bookcase.

Killer, there's some difficulty following your diagram, but ignoring that, what do you mean that the monitor in the middle is "blocking" sound? The sound comes from the Axioms on each side and the sound about equal in the left and right channels appears to come from the middle because of the "phantom" effect although it's coming from each side.

oh, come now...my diagram was a master of simplicity!! \:\) well, maybe not. what i was trying to show that as i sit in my chair, the monitor sits about forehead high. smack dab in the middle of the placemente of the axioms in the bookcases against the far wall.

Let's try it this way: how far from your listening position are the Axioms, how widely are they separated and how high from the floor are they; how far from your listening position is the monitor and how high is it?

Also, what are you wearing?

well, i dont have my own web page so how do i post a pic of the "situation"?

CV---hmm, little worried about ya \:\)

Most people here seem to like Photobucket for hosting images. I've never used them, but I'm sure someone here could step you through the process if it's not straightforward enough.

Killer, Charles asked what you were wearing because he learned some time ago that cloth materials in the listening room had a significant effect on the sound. He reported to us that he tried listening while nude and experienced stronger bass and a better sound stage as a result. He says that he always listens like that now and also insists that any female guests that he has over do the same. There was some reluctance at first until he explained to them that this was simply in the interests of higher fidelity.

The sweet spot is small enough that we have to sometimes be creative in how we share it, too.

Yeah, Charles; I understood that this is where you learned of the benefits, but decided not to compromise with half way measures.

oh, i see now, he hopes they like his woofers \:\)

anyway, i joined up at photo bucket, copied the url, posted it like the faq's say to, and all it did was copy the url...what i be doing wrong?

Did you put the tags around it (sans trailing spaces)?

Also the link must end with .jpg, .gif, or the like, otherwise it simply won't work.

it worked!!

Hey, that's exactly what I envisioned when you just had the diagram, including the wallpaper on your desktop.

By the way, that's a lot of Dune. I was just mentioning the Padishah Emperor to someone tonight in IM.

That's a great page, John. Thanks for the link.

Killer, looking at the picture it doesn't appear that the monitor will block a significant amount of the sound. Your ears still "see" the speakers.

If I’m picturing this correctly your speakers are against the wall 4 feet away from where your computer desk and you are located. If that’s correct then as long as there is a direct line-of-sight between both speakers and both your ears then the monitor is not blocking any of the sound radiating directly at you. It will, however, redirect some of the sound waves at you that would otherwise have passed by. This will effect the imaging and possibly colour the sound. However, I imagine having your speakers in the bookshelves will do more to colour the sound and effect the imaging than the monitor.

You could increase the relative separation between the speakers to you by moving your desk closer to the wall the speakers are on or moving the speakers off the wall and closer to you or moving the speakers farther apart. You could then play around with toe-in to see what produces the best overall soundstage.

If buying a large flat panel in in your near future you could get one and hand it on the wall between the speakers and keep your desk where it is. I use my HDTV as my primary computer monitor and it’s great.

Cheers,
Dean

Sure, Charles; and I'd suppose that those who become almost hysterical over "oxygen free" speaker wire would be enthusiastic about the Oxygen-Free Listening Room .

i could move the speakers up one shelf also, as seen in the pic...i know that would put the tweeter above ear level...i can also move the right speaker some 2 ft to the right also.

thoughts?

The tweeters should remain near ear level, and unless you can also move your chair so as to remain midway between the speakers, don't move one speaker out wider.
