Bryston is Canadian! Manufactured in my home town.

Neither. I prefer more bang for the buck type Audio Equipment.

Can't spend 7-15K on an amp!

However, this things looks amazing: "delivering 2000 watts of continuous power and 8000 watts at the peaks"

I still really want an ep800 and an a1400 amp.. Not long and I'll be craving a new center channel too \:\)

I have had the great pleasure of hearing amps from both manufacturer's and you can't go wrong with either.

I always associate Bryston with SS and the McIntosh with tubes though.

The McIntosh is built to withstand a direct nuclear hit and probably retains a higher resale value.

Older McIntosh amps (1970's especially) are highly desirable to audiophiles. Check out their eBay listings.

Not sure if one is better than the other. They are both top notch. I think when you start getting into McIntosh territory (price wise); choices start to become choices centered around name, appearance and bragging rights more than sound quality or sonic differences.

Rotel and NAD both make some very good amps at a reasonable price points. I’d put them on your shopping list as well. I’m sure there are others in this league as well.

No wonder they're so damned expnsive. Teri keeps walking past the plant. Bet they have nose prints all over the front windows.

I would say Mcintosh, between those 2 options. Due to the Mcintosh being a tube amp, if you are talking about the Mcintosh tubes?..

However I went with Krell, more power for the same money as a Mcintosh..

What speakers are you planning on getting? what is your budget for an amp? and what kind of processor or preamp are you using?

dakkon thanks to answer \:\) I don't have a pre amp and in the future I'll buy a pair of m80v2. Don't know for the lamp amp or anything else. No budget for now.

I was just asking a general question about those company. My listening is 60% music, 30% Home theater and sometimes for gaming but I don't know if I will use it for that.

I know that Bryston is built in Canada what about Mcintosh?

Thanks JC2

American, made in New York

When you are talking about that caliber of amp, you will want a good processor, since you are using HT as well as music, you will want to get a good processor. I went with a Krell processor, you can expect to pay 2k-10k$+. Are you going to get a processor from the same manufacture as the amp? I would recommend getting something with balanced audio out, I went from RCA out to Balanced audio out, and it made a dramatic difference.
