After drooling over Axiom speakers for a long time a pair of M40Ti's came up on CL for a great price so I jumped on them. I get them on Friday. I'll be using these in a music only setup in my office with an Anthem Integrated 30 wpc tube amp and a Behringer Ultracurve Pro DEQ2496.
They will be replacing a set of Ian Paisley designed SPL 1000 bookshelf ported speakers with 2 5 1/2" poly drivers a 1" silk tweeter placed between them and to the inside. From what limited info there is on the M40Ti's it seems like these will be a great match for my little tube amp. I can't wait to do some listening over the long weekend.
That's a blast from the past. Hope you enjoy them.
Can't wait to hear your feedback, hope the 40's work out with your tube amp.
@wid - LOL. My system will be a great circa 2001 midfi system. That's about when the Anthem and Axioms were made. Only instead of $1700 I'll have it for $350 + another $100 for the EQ w/measurement mike on eBay.
@Sirquack - I'll post an update once I get to spend some time with them.
I bet it will sound great.
I really like the M40s... they're still my primary music speakers. It always surprises people when I take off the grills and they see such a little speaker producing such smooth bass. Enjoy !
Very nice!! What will you be using for a source?
I love Anthem products and Axiom. Love tubes amps, preamps, tuners and CDPs.
Please post some pictures if you have a chance.
Sources will be my Onkyo CD player, Sony HD radio, and my laptop run through my Fubar DAC. With the laptop I usually play .ogg files with Foobar.
Foobar. Also fubar. Everyone know what fubar stands for?
Fun with Ur Buddies at the Axiom Reunion, of course.
F'd up beyond all recognition.
It's true. It's an old computer term.
Yes, I was just being silly.
I thought it predated computers and was an Army term from WWII.
Probably true. I don't know. I was just wondering if this was common knowledge or not. I only discovered the meaning of fubar about 10 years ago. I see it used in examples in a lot of programming books.
Cool. I had not heard of Tarfu.
OK, Kruncher, get back to lurking now.
Got them yesterday. Hooked them up and positioned the quickly. Listened for a bit. WOW! Initial impression is that these are fantastic speakers. I will get time over the weekend to dial in position and do some critical listening. Will report back then. Might even get to put some pics up.
Excellent. Pics would be great - I have been delinquent in posting pics of my M40s so it would be great if someone could cover for me.
I keep meaning to write a review and take some pictures. I have written the review in my head a dozen times but every time I sit down at my desk to write it and turn on my system with the M40ti's in it I end up just listening to music. I think there is a very good synergy between my Anthem Integrated 1 and the M40ti's. I scored a REL Acoustics Quake I subwoofer off CL for $80 and add that in. The M40ti's don't really need it since they do very nice clean and clear bass down to 40htz but the deal on the Quake was too good to pass up and I was curious to see what a good sub could add. With that now handling the extreme lows I am in sonic heaven. A real review and pics is coming soon but for now I can say I love the M40's!
Glad you are liking the M40s and the quake sub, looking forward to your full review and some pics.

Good speakers have a habit of doing that to you.
