for accoustic music as in Folk and Jazz? My budget doesn't offer the M60, and I hear mixed reviews for the 40 and 50. I'd prefer a floor stander and a little more lows than the 22... I think.
Go with the 22 and a decent sub. I think you would be pretty happy with that.
Wait for the M60s to appear at the factory outlet. That's where I bought mine several weeks ago. The discount is usually 10%, so that should come in right at your limit.
I should probably add my room size is L shaped with a total sq ft. of approx 300 and running Rotel RA 02 and RCD 02. I have hardwood floors, the house is very open and with young kids, I will rarely play it loud. The other speakers I like are Monitor Audio S6 at $ 1200 cdn., AE EVO 3 at $ 1000, and PSB 4T at $ 800.00.
Although the M22 + sub combination (what I've got) would work really well in your situation, I'd wait for the M60s to hit the outlet. They'd be cheaper than the M22 + sub combo, and are probably less prode to being knocked over by small kids.
daver,
I believe that Saturn here on the forums has heard those Monitor Audio S6 speakers that you liked. You might want to get his opinion on a comparison between the Axioms and the Monitor Audio.
I believe he's posted his thoughts once before. Try doing a search for Monitor Audio or S6 and it might come up.
I agree...for your needs, I'd keep looking for the M60's in the outlet.
Save your money and get the M60. I has the same dynamics as the Silver S6. But the bass on the Silver S6 is unruly at high levels. The M60 definitely has a nice tight quick bass. The silver S6 will work spectacular only with high end electronics with lots of power. Why? I do not know? I have heard the Silver S6 on Denon and Rotel and it is a little bit of a let down. When they were connected to a Krell it was like a totally different speaker specially details at low volume levels. You also need a big space for the Silver S6. My 16 x 12 room was too small. The M60 is much easier to place, has great soundstage and detail. There is no bass issue with the M60.
The Gold Reference 10 although a bookshelve is much more balanced in the Monitor Audio line.

another comment.... I had the Silver S6 and returned after 6 months. The sound was too much in my face (verty forward) and the sound was all over the place. (imaging was so so using Rotel receiver power)

The M60s are available now through July 11th at the Axiom factory outlet for $990 cdn. It's a great speaker. Go for it.
