My Audiobytes died on me recently, and Axiom was very generous in letting me upgrade to the new v3s. I received them today. I won't be able to put them through their paces until the weekend, but I thought I'd make a couple of observations right now.

The most obvious changes are to the subwoofer. Instead of a box, it now resembles a bookshelf speaker (trapezoid and all), with a woofer and a port behind the grill. The grill is magnetic now, which the other Audiobytes already had. The sub is also now available in other colors besides black. I got mine in charcoal, to match the speakers. As far as performance, I'm not sure how it stacks up to the previous sub in output, since I can't really blast it right now, but instead of the three settings like before (Flat, Half, Full), there is now a Sub Trim dial on the back of the amp. That must be why you get a different amp if you're getting the Audiobytes with the sub versus not. Before, the settings were done on the sub itself. I definitely prefer the dial. Much finer control over the integration of the bass. Of course, getting a different powered sub and using the Sub Out would accomplish the same thing.

I'm a fan of these changes. The overall performance seems to be what I remember, but like I said, it's nice to have the finer control over the bass. I look forward to throwing more material at the system over the weekend.

Sounds good so far, looking forward to a more thorough review smile

Pictures would be nice, Charles since the web site is still showing the old subwoofer!

Did they mention whether there were any changes to amplifier power?

Can you post a pic of the subwoofer? I think mine may need to die soon, too.

j/k smile

I'm surprised nobody has requested pictures, yet.

We prefer to have a hot chick in the picture too.

So would CV!

Ha ha, can't argue with that.

Nothing a little Photoshop can't fix. wink

Whoa, do you even need to ask?

Was a rhetorical question grin .

Here are a couple comparison shots of the new v3 EP0 next to the original version. I left the dust on the original so you could tell which was which, not because I was lazy.

What does the back look like? Did they get rid of the trim/boost adjustment?
Posted By: CV Re: Audiobyte v3 Computer Speakers - 11/14/10 03:54 AM
The back simply has the jack. The trim setting is now done via a dial on the back of the main amp.

That's a smarter place to put it. Nice. They're always making things better. If I hadn't followed JohnK's lead and worked up an immunity to upgradeitis, I might resent them for it. wink

I ordered one of the flying remote volume/mute controls, but it's on backorder for 10-15 days. What would be nice is if they could put the sub trim dial on that, too.

I got my Audiobyte Flying Control today. It is definitely handy if you can't have the amp right there, and the headphone jack is the clincher. It's hard to imagine someone NOT wanting this accessory.

If the girl is pretty enough, it's easy to imagine anything!
