Strongly considering an upgrade from M60s v2 to M80s v3 but before pulling the trigger I'd like to hear from anyone that may have made this upgrade. Primarily listen to jazz which the M60s do well. Curious what improvements you may have heard?
I have compared the M60v2 and M80v2 and the midrange is where there is more of a noticeable difference to my ears and there is also a tad better lower end to the M80s. I also noticed the M80s play a bit cleaner/crisper at lower volumes but only really noticeable doing an A/B test.
I would recommend you order up a set of M80s, compare them to the M60s and make the decision on your own. I think it costs about $90 to send the M80s back should you decide to not keep them. I have wasted that much cash in fuel driving around listening to speakers on an afternoon.
I did a direct comparison of the V2s at the Axiom factory. The M80s seemed to have more clarity in the treble. I really noticed it on cymbals.
If you are listening without a sub, the M80s extend deeper. To me, the base came across as more textured if that makes any sense.
I absolutely love to listen to the Base Intro To Discovery on Chick Corea's Time Warp. Its every bit as good as live.
If you are still within your trial period, I believe you can upgrade without paying anything for shipping.
Jackewash is right get a pair of M80 for a trial period 30-days
that's the best way to make a decision on your own at home with your system & all your favorite music & films.
If you keep them an your trial is overdue on your M60, you could try to sell them on Axiom Auction site.
Good Luck !!!!
The difference will be dramatic between the M80v3 and the M60v2. I switched out my M80v2 for the M80v3 and was amazed at the openess within the midrange and the smoothness of transition to the top end. As Jakewash says the best is to audition the speakers for the 30 days in your home (what better way) and on the off-chance you did want to return you can do so.
oh great, now you have me thinking about swapping out my 80v2's
I didn't need to read that either, thanks alot Brent.
