but there are no "right" people to axe in this situation.

Opinions:

How much happier will I be if I trade in/up my M-60's (in veneer, ya cheap bastards!) for M-100's? I'd still be shellin' out $1.7k, plus another $690 to match my current finish, but these would be my "end of the line" speakers, as I am almost as old now as Brian.

I actually got a no-fuss green light from my better half, with, "It's your decision. I know how much pleasure you derive from them." And that's while, as I write, the new 200+' of gutter$ are being in$talled around all house.

So, it's still a bit tight to do, but now would be the time based on a 75% credit for my 60's.

All responses will be valued, even the a-hole ones. Oh, right, I'M not responding myself, so that shouldn't be a problem here, eh?

I would say, just go for it. They can't make you any sadder.
I'd say go for it!

But just get cheap vinyl. I don't mean the nice-looking vinyl that's used for Axiom's standard finish, I mean have them go out to Queen Tire or whatever that cheep Canadian place is and get some real bargain stuff.

Then close your eyes whenever you listen to them.

"Queen Tire", ha, ha, ha. (Bob will like that one!) It's Canadian Tire, or, as many of us Canadians refer to it, Crappy Tire.

Cheers,
Alan
I think I was doing a custom mix of Canadian Tire and Princess Auto. grin

A Freddie Mercury fan, eh?!

Rock on, Bob!

Bob,

All kidding aside, if you "axe" me, if things are a bit tight with the 200 feet of new gutters, you'd find a significant upgrade in sound quality by going to the M80 v3s from your M60s. In the double-blind tests I've done between those two loudspeakers, I consistently rank the M80 a full point above the very good M60s -- if the M60 gets an 8 out of 10 on my score sheet (10 being the theoretical perfect loudspeaker), the M80v3 gets a 9 from me. According to my ultra-critical speaker rating criteria, that degree of improvement is a lot.

Cheers,
Alan
I think you should do it.
(But to be fair, Tom likes spending other people's money even more than the rest of us!)

Personally, I wish I could but now is not the best time (for me).

Why not try them out and then not change your mind. Seems to me that you have alot of music to catch up on.(your own) wink
Bob, do you want me to come over there and (like someone I know) say to you "No, you don't want those. THIS is what you want!"?

I have just sent Brent my list of queries if I upgrade from my M60 to M100....hey, can I just choose M80 and still qualify for the trade up program?
Posted By: fredk Re: I know you are THE wrong people to axe, - 09/13/13 02:24 AM
Sell the M60s and buy a Bose Wave radio. You'll be much happier.
Bob, I say go for it.

There is the most hideous bronze sculpture of Bobby Orr, in exactly that position, out in from the Boston Garden. You're really missing out.
Posted By: BobKay Re: I know you are THE wrong people to axe, - 09/13/13 01:17 PM
As usual, you guys do not disappoint. Thanks for all the input.

I kinda wish Bill at least put up some resistance, then I'd just defer. Un unexpected job just landed in my lap yesterday that will cover most of the cost of the upgrade. And I just got a master bath gut/expansion for Oct that wasn't on my calendar.

How's that for justifications?

Or "betterer." I had a bunch of strokes from Dec to June, then surgery for it. I didn't die and I've lost no functions, (except I can no longer play the octaroon), so I suppose I NEED them now before the next BIG one, right?

I wonder if I can take them with me to the sate funded assisted living center?

Edit: Would I even know that they were in the room with me?

Hey Bob.
After paying the bills, what good is money? Spend it on what makes you happy.

Did that make you happy? Good, send money.

Hey! I know that guy! He has to show up every couple of years in County Court in the next town over from us for non-payment of child support.

Such a dichotomy; first a picture of a Bobby winner, then one of a Bobby loser. Gee, even you edumacated southerners are racists!

So...are you gonna do it or what?
Really! No verdict yet?

I am calling Brent tomorrow to order my M100's.

Before I do, I need to know one thing.

I have to know whether the % of the sale that ends up in Ian and Amie's place, no matter how small, finds a home in the boathouse or in the shoe closet?
Posted By: brwsaw Re: I know you are THE wrong people to axe, - 09/23/13 05:17 AM
Let me be the first to say Congrats and to remove any liability(just in case).
I joke.
If hadn't just bought a second house I (probably)would have agreed to the upgrade as well.
The offer is very tempting even now(I'm broke).
Any way... nobody ever answered my question about the M100's being designated left and right.
I know a tower (center, probably M80) is in my future.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts about your new towers.
Again, congrats.

The M100s are symmetrical speakers and have no L/R designation. The LFE1100s have their backs slanted slightly so that the rearward sound projection hits the back wall at a certain angle, aiding the omni-directionality. So the LFE1100s have to have the backs different on the left and right to get the designed angles.
Didja order them yet? Huh?

Didja order them yet?
Well, didja?

Not even a little bit goes to shoes or boats, I promise!

Ah, then it goes to other modes of transport, like classic cars and the invisible jet! Roger, Roger.

Hi, Amie! It wouldn't have affected my decision, of course, but, I thought, when I usually listen with my eyes closed, each time I DID open them and saw the cabinets, I could imagine them having a connection to something neither of you need either.

Plus, I always like to hear about anyone else's shoe, ummm, collections.
Very good, Bob. I'm eager to hear about your experience with the new speakers.

Gracias, guys. Hey, JP, that Mandingo and one his girl friends kidnapped women and held them as sex hostages for a few days each at their house in LA.

First Bobby Brown, now this! You DO know how "ta pick 'em."

Got lucky when an over-committed workmate threw me a "bone" of a small frpl. mantel. He didn't know the frpl. dog had a neighbordog who popped by during my visit with "frpl. dog lady" to tell me she wanted me to design/build a MUCH bigger mantel for her and to then come re-do every surface in her "big 'ol barn" of a house. THAT made it easier to pull the trigger on a self-indulgency, like new speakers, for sure. Of course, I'll cut him in on as much of the work as he wants. Don't misunderstand, I AM an a-hole, just not THAT kind.
