Hi everybody, I need an advice concerning two used pre amp. I can either have (both are $300.00 CAN) a Lexicon CP-3+ or a Denon PRA-1500. I know the Lexicon is higher end but I listen only to stereo music and don't really care for the surround stuff. What do you think ? I need quick advice please ....
Thank you,

Simon Desrosiers, Montreal

Lexicon in a no-brainer. A preamp will have the second biggest effect on sound quality in an AV system (after loudspeakers). Lexicon is in a totally different league than Denon in build quality, reputation, and performance...even if the used preamps are comparably priced and warrantied.

Having just purchased the Axiom '60s and connected them to an old Lexicon CP-3, I'd recommend that you leap at the chance to use the Lexicon. Even if you never use the surround features, the conventional stereo output of the CP-3 is simply outstanding. From symphonic music to acoustic jazz and folk, your Axioms will sing. Just hit the "mute effects" button on the front and enjoy. Or don't do anything, and the machine will play in conventional two-channel mode by default. It is a great piece of equipment, vintage in the absolute best sense of the term.

most definitely go with lexicon. a far superior product than denon. they are a leader in the industry for the pre/pro setup. i've done some research on the MC 7 and it is an awesome peice of equipment. fairly pricy at aobut 7000 list but still awesome. if the old stuff is anything like the new stuff then it will well be worth the moeny.
