Hello to all.I been wanting to get a new amp for awhile now. After some serious thought I finally got the Rotel RB 1080 amp and 1070 pre.As of right now I'm using a RB1070 amp on loan while waiting for the 1080 to come in.The 1070 is itself a very nice amp for my M80'S.But I can't wait to hear the 1080 pushing the M80'S.As for the pre amp it is also a fine piece of gear.Having a remote is quite nice not having to get my lazey butt up to operate it if I so choose.Going from a 15 year old Kenwood amp and Parasound pre to this is a nice change.

Very nice --- I see some rotel in my future possibly as well, so I am glad to hear that it's good

Rotel is awesome! I use the RSP-1066 processor with the RB-1070 powering my M60's and their RMB-1075 powering the rest of my channels. Audio bliss.

If you're a cheap as I am, you can find lots of great Rotel gear on audiogon.com. I bought all three pieces "used". (They were less than a year old, had original boxes and manuals. They even sent me their original sales receipts!) I save about $800 buying used.

Well I had the RB1080 for 10 days.I was listening to it for about two hours, when I was about to turn it off I heard a pop out of the letf side. After this the left side was dead.I took it back to dealer they checked all the fuses and they were all ok. What I don't understand is the amp never went into protection mode and it was turned all the way down when this happened.I was'nt driving very hard either.Do'nt know what went wrong.

That's probably a very unfortunate initial failure. If the "pop" sound came from the amp itself (not the speaker), my guess is one of the power capacitors was defective and exploded. Did the dealer replace the unit, which I believe they should?

The pop came from the speaker but I switched the speaker leads and the speaker seemed to be ok.The dealer is in talks with Rotel to see what could of went wrong and to see what they are going to do about it.I told the dealer I wanted a new amp not a repaired one.Looking at the setting on the preamp when the amp crapped out the volume knob was at about 7o'clock. I was turning it down when it happened and thats when it popped. The dealer gave me a RB1070 to use till they get things taken care of.

That's horrible. Sorry to hear about that - I don't know what I would do if I spent money on an audio product and it just dies like that in the first weeks.

Good luck.

My first Anthem PVA-5 arrived well packed and looking quite slick in its silver face. I hooked it up, pushed the power button, heard a very loud pop, saw a very large purple lightening bolt under the top grill followed by total silence. They swapped it out, no questions. New one works fine.

If your dealer gives you any grief contact Rotel directly. They've got a terrific service reputation.
