Hey everyone, I came across a reciever all that it says is Montgomery Wards Model 650 and looks very similar to a Pioneer SX-1280 or SX-1980 on the outside and back. I wonder if anyone here knows much about it or had owned one.

Thanks Haoleb, Great site!! Lots of good info there. It looks like mine is very similar to either a SX-980 or SX-1080. The twin VU meters go to 100 watts and is switchable for 5 or 100 watt settings. There are two frequency settings for low and high filters, two phono and tape inputs, two frequency turnovers for the Bass and Treble and defeats for Bass, Mid, Treble. It uses the same Darling Power Pack STK's as the SX-xx80's. Four large capacitors and one large transformer grace the inside. After a thorough cleaning and spraying out the pots I sat down, hooked up my Paradigms to it and was just amazed at the sound quality. Plus I got it for free so that makes it even sweeter. I put the VU switch to 5 watts and it never even went to 5 watts and was plenty loud. I forgot how much I missed 70's audio. They sure don't build them like they used to.
