what should the cross-over be set at for the m22+ep175 combo?
my amp can be set at 80hz or 120hz.

You also have an adjustable cross over control on the EP175. I would suggest doing a bit of experimenting to get the best results in your room. Try setting the amp crossover to 120Hz and the EP175 to 60 Hz as a starting point and adjust the EP175 cross over from there. Alternatively you should also try the 80Hz setting on your amplifier and the highest setting on the EP175. I would suggest doing these tests with music for the best results.

wait a second. if i set the amp to 120 hz and the sub to 60 hz, won't i be missing the range from 60-120 hz? sorry if this question reveals my ignorance, but i'd appreciate it if you could sort this out for me.

That depends on how your amp is setup. If your amp has a separate crossover control for the sub itself (that doesn’t affect the mains), then setting the amps sub output to 120Hz and the sub to 60Hz you’ll be fine. As long as your amps separate control for the mains (if it so has one) is set to give the mains 60Hz and up, or you’re letting the mains take everything then your fine.

But if your amp is like mine, and it only has one crossover control for both mains and sub in one setting, then your right and you’ll not want to setup your amp like that. Then you’ll want to try Ian’s alternative and you should use the 80Hz setting on your amplifier and the highest setting on the EP175.
