I have finally managed to save up enough for my new LFR1100s. I had taken my M80s in some time ago and spoke to Ian about trading up. He had made me a deal I coudnt refuse but I wasn't able to make it happen until now.So psyched!! Last couple of times I was there my speakers were still in the middle of the office. I am sure he will be glad to finally get them out of there and get them ready for resale.

Thanks.....Can't wait. Wish they were open today.

Just of of curiosity. what sort of DSP did you get with that. Are your's the ones with only RCA cross connects or ones with XLR as well? What sort of external amp are you going to use with the speakers?

Ive had LFR1100's for a few years now and just love them. To start with I had quite a bit of trouble with getting my receiver to play nice with the DSP and then ran into issues when I replaced the receiver with a used pre-amp. But my current combination works flawless.

Just picked up the 1100s today. As far as I know I am just getting the basic DSP. As there is only one unit available presently and I wanted to get the speakers yesterday, smile I honestly didn't even ask which version it was. Patience has never been my strong point. Unfortunately I wont get the DSP till tomorrow. I really cant complain since I called this morning hoping to pick up this afternoon. Although they were able to supply the speakers on short notice the DSP wasnt ready as it needed to be coded and Andrew was off today. He normally does this. Right now I am basically using them as M100s. Still sound great but I am sure they will be much better when I get the DSP. I have two seperate amps I plan to power them with. A Crown and a Beringher which supply about 450 and 400 WPC @ 4 ohms respectfully. Should be more than enough power. I am using a Yamaha RX-A3050 as preamp and to power rear surrounds. Everything else is powered externally. I will report back once setup is complete.

Finally have my 1100s setup. I seem to be having an issue between the Yamaha AVR and the DSP. It is working however it randomly cuts out for about a second at a time. MatManBobbleHead had some problems initially between his AVR and DSP also. Anyone else experience this?

Update....after some experimentation I found that sources other than my usual PC with JRiver didn't cause the AVR to cut out.I realized I had used the DSP feature in JRiver to tweak my sound and it was apparently conflicting with the Axiom DSP. Disabled all JRiver DSP functions and all seems to be fine now.Go figure!

Loving the new LFRs. They are all they said they would be. I am not able to give them the recommended clearances the way my setup up is presently but they still sound soooo much nicer than what I was using. Gonna have to completely rearrange the room and gear but thats for another day. For now I am just gonna enjoy

Congrats on the new speakers.

I just ordered a second set of M5HP's to replace my M60s but had that nagging "maybe this is where I should get LFRs" thought as I was doing it. One of my concerns has been clearances as well... it's been tough getting even the M60's far enough from the front wall.

What kind of spacing from side & front walls do you have ?

Hi bridgman Congrats to you as well. At the moment I have the left speaker with about 10" behind and about 24" to the side. The right has the recommended 24" around but its placement is partially blocking the route to the adjoining rooms.....a bit cumbersome. I haven't had a chance to play with the DSP settings yet but question if they will be of much use considering it is just the one speaker that is too close. I intend to completely re-orient the room which will allow for much better placement of the speakers but the is going to be a monumental undertaking with the amount of cabling involved ( I have 4 external amps etc.). Another day smile But even as is they still sound amazing. I was thinking about using the M5s for surrounds but they might be a bit of overkill. Probably will have to wait on that as I plan to get a multi channel amp first and my budget is temporarily blown with the LFRs.

I am sure the drive will be worth it. The speakers will be great and if you take the time to carry on out to the park the Fall colours should be close to thier peak. Congrats

Hi Bob, I was into Axiom on Fri. and saw your new M100s all boxed up and ready for you with the carpet spikes on top. Let us know how they sound.

It took me 6 hrs there and back but was a nice drive I left at 7:30 not to much traffic . I need to work on set up .Music was a bit boomy I think I need some port plugs .My amp is the ADA 1500 3 channel for centre and left and right .One this I struggle with is how for I have to push volume on my AV receiver .-23 DB is not very loud .Not sure what is up, my hearing is ok .Any help would be great Thank you
Note I ordered these speakers this week and Debbie made arrangements for me to pick up this weekend.Thank you to Jeff Debbie's husband who met me at Axiom at 10:30am
Their customer service is second to none .Thank you both for making this happen for me .

Hi Bob, sometimes a mismatch between your pre/out voltage and the voltage gain of the amp cause the situation you are experiencing . If you pre out voltage is too low it will be unable to drive your amp to full power. You may also be driving your pre outs to clipping while trying to get your amp to max power which can introduce distortion at high volumes. It is sometimes difficult to find exact specs for a receiver's output specs. You can find the voltage gain of the amp on Axioms site, they say 2.0v for full power so really you should have no problems with most modern receivers, tell us what u have. Also remember that todays volume controls are logarithmic rather than linear so they react differently. Best to look that one up on google smile . If you can hit the volume you like without distortion then you are good to go, in they end they are just numbers.

Thats exactly what I was thinking Socketman. As long as you can reach the volume you desire the numbers are just a reference. What speakers were you using prior to the M100s. If you had bookshelves
your AVR settings will be vastly different than required for the towers. Before getting port plugs play around with settings. Maybe put a sock or similar in the ports to see the change. Position can be huge. Half the fun with new speakers is experimenting until you get things just the way YOU like them.

I find the same problem depending on the source. I can put on one Blu ray and the sound is punchy loud at -25db and I would turn it down to -30db to watch without disturbing the rest of the family.
Then you can put on another Blu ray and it sounds lacking in sound even at -15db that i have set as my forced limit on the AVM60 pre-amp.

I was watching Netflix and didn't have anything better to watch so I put on the xXx: The Return of Xander Cage (a mind numb bad movie) and the sound mixing for this was so far off that I watched the whole thing at -15db and felt that it wasn't loud at all. Put on another episode of Sense8 and had to quickly turn the volume down to -32db as it sounded like an explosion.

What is even worse at those movies that can't make their mind up as to if they want to be ultra quiet or ultra loud and you have to spend the whole movie with the volume control in hand because it's up and down every minute with dialog set to low and irrelevant surround music set to blast your ear drums out to the point of bleeding.

My experience exactly as well. The mix is paramount in how the CD, DVD/Blu Ray will sound. There are a lot of poor mixes & inconsistencies out there that sometimes make listening a less than satisfying experience.

I find that SACDs are generally a cut above the rest in consistency perhaps because more care is taken in the mixing process because they are supposedly an 'audiophile' format.

Clapton's products over the past 15 years or so are generally really well recorded & properly mixed - full & articulate. They put many others to shame. There is no reason that the industry can't match this quality...

Sure I can. PM me your phone number and i will set up a time that is good. Will bring some audio and video that I know work well and see if we can get your system tuned in to what you'd like.

FWIW in car audio people have used what is know as a line level booster but not sure what is available for home use or how much distortion may get introduced. Keep in mind that car amps also have adjustable gain control which would be nice to have on home gear for these situations. Also most if not all car audio decks use 5v output for noise rejection purposes. I still see some at 2v but not very often. Automotive DC electrical systems are pretty noisy . You can check your pre out voltage with a standard dvom meter just search on youtube. Bear in mind you will get max voltage but you will be unable to tell when distortion is introduced.
