Curiosity got the better of me.

Leema Zeros are not up to the job now I spun the room 90 degrees.... Have to push them into distortion to load the room on this long axis. Some tracks I started to notice. Now cant unhear it... Bonerz....

M5s. Rosewood. Natural. Piano. Broke. Lol.

After all this time I gave in.....

Good luck with the bass on the M5s in your living room. If anyone can tame them without "room EQ", you can.

Nice finish. Please post photos.

No sub?

P.S. How long before the island floods?
Posted By: Mojo Re: On the way - 06/29/20 01:31 AM
When you get them, experiment with the height.
Posted By: rrlev Re: On the way - 06/29/20 02:31 AM
setup on the long wall or short?
Posted By: Mojo Re: On the way - 06/29/20 03:01 AM
On the short which is unfortunate on one hand but fortunate on the other. He'll have a narrower soundstage but will be able to control bass better.
Posted By: 2x6spds Re: On the way - 06/29/20 03:45 AM
I think speakers on the short wall sound better than on the long wall.
Posted By: Mojo Re: On the way - 06/29/20 03:53 AM
Speakers on the short wall allow you to control depth of the soundstage much better. But soundstage width is too narrow. I suppose it depends how short your short wall is and if you care more about depth than width. If the short wall is 25 feet, no problem. You can have depth and width.

I had a few speakers on the short wall once.

Long wall is better for me.

You get a real woofer instead of that puny 4" Leema mid that has to pull double duty. And a real mid-woofer too with a very airy tweeter. A vortex sphincter is the icing on the cake.

Set up firing down length of room.

Bass no prob if measurements are true.

Yes to pics.

Will measure vert and horiz outdoors off step ladder first.
Posted By: aaaaaaaaaaaaa Re: On the way - 06/29/20 09:55 PM
The amp is a Leema Tucana. Hoping they pair well and I can turn the dial further. I see the anechoic is likely <85db on the M5s. The Tucana likes being cranked... So we should be off to the races.

30% volume was the “please Sir, no more” mark with the Zeros. At that volume I can feel bass in my toes on ottoman and couch cushions. The designers squeezed a lot out of those little boxes! But physics is physics.

Frankly, I’m happy to join the Axiom owners club. Now I unlock that section of the forum. Lol.
Posted By: Mojo Re: On the way - 06/30/20 12:55 AM
If the specs are the same as the Tucana II, you won't have any problem driving the M5s. Admittedly my Pioneer and the ADA-1000-2 did not fare well with the M5s in my main room. Just as I turned them up a bit to rock out, they'd both stop the party.

The ADA-1500-3 is a different story. No problem there. They took everything the 1500 could dish out although the sound did get ratty.

Why did I chose wait 21 days! Lol. Cheap bastard I am.

Pretty excited.

Its been a long time since I had new toys to play with. I wonder if Covid made an upturn in sales for Axiom.

People spending a lot of time close to home now.
Posted By: Mojo Re: On the way - 07/25/20 10:40 PM
It's been 21 days. How do they sound?

Actually it did according to Debbie.
I got the same feedback from a local audio shop owner here too. Lots of stereo systems, not so much HT setups.
Evidently people are spending their money in different ways including adding quality sound to the home en masse.
Posted By: Mojo Re: On the way - 07/26/20 01:13 AM
Many have all of a sudden discovered their homes.
Posted By: aaaaaaaaaaaaa Re: On the way - 07/26/20 03:07 PM
Not here yet. Think its 21 business days. Not in a panic. I have to make new stands for them anyhow and my garage is a duct workshop right now. Table saw and chopsaw are buried.

Covid definitely turned our attention to our home and being here cooped up has led to lots of projects....

Going to wait until they land and make some stands after I measure them. Andrew could save me the trouble if he could share the vertical plot. confused
Posted By: Mojo Re: On the way - 07/26/20 05:38 PM
Trevor, don't make stands until you have a chance to experiment. Forget the vertical plot. Try them with the tweeters 6" below ear level. The degree to which you hear what I hear and my friend hears with hers will depend on how far away you place them from the front wall.

Look at how low she has them.

Will do for sure. Smart setup choice for her room. My room is more dead for sure and has thick throw rugs so likely the treble balance wont be quite the same. Will end up with cinderblocks on end wrapped in fancy fabric for a short while likely. At the rate of missions ahead of me maybe till spring.... lol.

Height would be dang close.... hmmmm.
Posted By: Mojo Re: On the way - 07/26/20 09:20 PM
Cinderblocks are cool. Get the missus to decorate them.
Posted By: bridgman Re: On the way - 07/27/20 06:22 AM
I used the M2ti boxes as a center speaker stand for an embarrassingly long time... possibly right up until a VP180 with stand replaced the VP100.

That reminds me, I think the VP180 stand instructions said I should screw them to the speaker... don't think I ever did that. Or maybe there were threaded inserts. I should check.

I’m in the middle of doing the same (if the ducting is for dust collection). Once that’s done I’ll probably also build a few stands before anything else.

No Rich. Trevor is building Helmholtz resonators to prepare for his M5s.

Better then 3 years. Seems the wait is coming to an end as most of the speakers will be here Friday.

One good thing about holding that long is that you don’t have to send them back to trade them in. I’m pretty sure I’ve set a record on that front.
Posted By: aaaaaaaaaaaaa Re: On the way - 07/28/20 10:18 PM
Lol. Yeah. Im guilty of never never projects/plans too.

Worst is when you buy stuff and find it years later......and go “huh!?” oh yeah!

Your dust collection duct looks good. Dont forget your grounding straps for static. (Gotta say it as a sparkie)

Pretty excited about the M5s. Just dreading the reality of not being able to get them dialed in for a bit. Havent used the basement much lately either. Just an F1 race so far in the last couple months and a demo for guests. Busy busy!
Posted By: aaaaaaaaaaaaa Re: On the way - 08/25/20 09:04 PM
They are here. Just got them set up on top of shipping boxes. Need to get them at least 6”-10” lower before I really judge them.

Great packaging!
Posted By: aaaaaaaaaaaaa Re: On the way - 08/26/20 12:56 AM
Found some folding chairs in the basement and now have them set up with tweeters at ear height. Much much better.

Might mess with building some stands for testing tomorrow. Listened to them for a couple of hours. Big difference from out of the bag..... Glad they softened up. Sound great now. Nice balance.

More thoughts later.
Posted By: aaaaaaaaaaaaa Re: On the way - 08/26/20 09:29 AM
I’ll start a new thread in the water cooler for messing around with them.

They are showing a lot of potential -even though just set up fairly roughly aimed and sat on padded folding chairs. Handily best my old speakers in dynamics and bass output for sure.

Wife is not a fan so far. Ugly compared to the old speakers, which she now claims as hers. Lol.

The Xero looks pretty cute just like the Totem Dreamcatcher so I can't blame your Missus.

Give them a shot at 8" or so above the floor. I prefer them that way when I am sitting 10 to 14 feet away and they are 10 to 12 feet apart.

Zippidee Doo Da!

Received my email from Axiom

2 LFR1100As and 2 EP600s on their way!

Now I'm feeling it!
Posted By: aaaaaaaaaaaaa Re: On the way - 08/27/20 09:36 PM
Lol. Awesome.

Decided the M5s are here to stay!
Posted By: rrlev Re: On the way - 08/27/20 11:03 PM
Where are you putting them 2x?
Posted By: Mojo Re: On the way - 08/27/20 11:35 PM
Dining room.
Posted By: 2x6spds Re: On the way - 08/28/20 12:11 PM
Yup. This weekend, the last pair of Axiom M2OWs will go up.

So, the system will be (once Axiom LFR1100As and EP600's arrive).

LFR1100 Actives, VP160,, 8 M2OWs, 2 EP600s,
(2) ADA 1500 10 channels total
Integra Balanced Audio Technologies 7 channel amp,
Marantz 7025 2 channel amp
OPPO UDP205
Marantz AV8805 Processor
75" Sony 4K

Now, if only there were some decent movies to watch.
Posted By: Mojo Re: On the way - 08/28/20 12:31 PM
Watch Crawl on Prime.

This will be the loudest, cleanest, most impactful system out of the 63 surround systems at your place. laugh
Posted By: 2x6spds Re: On the way - 08/28/20 02:24 PM
Yeah, I don't like horror movies. Transformers movies will shake the place, But I'm tired of Chicom co-productions.
Posted By: Mojo Re: On the way - 08/28/20 02:56 PM
I suppose it depends on your interpretation of "horror". Movies like that one are more of adventure, suspense and drama to me.
Posted By: 2x6spds Re: On the way - 08/28/20 04:45 PM
I can do that!

They're in Memphis! What a world we live in!

So pumped!
Posted By: 2x6spds Re: On the way - 08/29/20 03:24 PM
They're in Los Angeles! They'll be here Tuesday!!

I hope FedEx didn't dribble them all the way from Ontario.

OK, so the side surrounds are now ear level and the side Atmos are up. Now, to get to the processor and plug them in.

LFR1100As are on their way, and the 2 EP600s as well. This is an AXIOM room.

Happier.

Why just links and no pictures?
Posted By: aaaaaaaaaaaaa Re: On the way - 08/31/20 12:50 AM
Link has to end with .jpg for direct link

Nice room. Now your high M2s are making more sense from before. smile
Posted By: 2x6spds Re: On the way - 08/31/20 02:14 AM
Yup. And, now I have to get back there and switch the side high Atmos with the surrounds. Backwards I am.
