Haven't heard it in my home system yet, as it's not left my car, but I just picked up Peter Gabriel's "Passion" CD. I grabbed it on Ebay for about $4.00. (The auction listed it as an SACD, but it's actually just a stadard CD.)

Anyway...very cool CD. Can't wait to bring it in the house. I have a feeling it'll really shine on the Axioms. I think the Hsu will get some work on this disc as well.

Speaking of Peter Gabriel...I read yesterday that The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is going to be released on hybrid SACD in May. I'm not sure if there's many Genesis (Gabriel era) fans around here, but for me this release is motivation to finish my HT. (VP150 and QS8's) I can't wait to here one of the best albums ever written in 5.1(IMO).

I saw them on possibly their first tour in 72 or 73. They played in a small hockey arena with no backstage. I was about 15 or 20 feet back from center stage. It was a great show. At one point Peter Gabriel was doing a song in a gold costume. When the song finished the room went to black, and then the costume exploded and burnt off him. In less then 1 second from the end of the last song he jumped right into "I know what I like (in your wardrobe)" and the crowd went nuts. Since there was no backstage, and they were young and excited, they hung around after and I had a chance to ask him a question. Since I was young, and it was the end of a rock concert, I have no recollection of what I asked. Anyway... Selling England By the Pound is the great album - accept no substitutes.

Tinfoilhat...Oh how I envy you. (and anyone else who saw Genesis before 1976) I was born in the wrong decade for music. *sigh*

Thanks so much for sharing that, tinfoilhat (or may I just call you tinfoil?). That must have been amazing. Like others here, I never saw the Gabriel-vintage Genesis, but saw several of their shows in the Abacab-Duke era, which I thought were amazing. While I think Peter Gabriel has had moments of sheer genius level creativity, he is not very prolific. It seems to me that he is still getting quite a bit of mileage out of "So", 20 years on.

You've forced me to dig out the vinyl again. Bugger.

Craig, tell us more about that disk!

I saw Genesis back in the early '80's at the Greek Theater in LA. "A Flock of Seagulls" opened for them...that should tell you something...I also saw Gabriel in the Student Union building at UCLA in '79 or '80. What a fantastic show! This really brings back some good memories of some times I have very foggy memories of. I, too, will be very happy to see "Lamb" come out in multichannel..Any idea who is doing the multichannel mix?

Not much to tell...it's simply incredible. All instrumental with track after track of amazing stuff. I had heard that it was good...not sure why I waited so long to pick it up.

btw...have any of you heard his "Up" cd? I bought it on hybrid SACD, and have only heard the standard cd layer. That's another great disc. Very different from "Passion", but still some great stuff. I particularly like track four "no way out". I can't wait to hear the sacd layer.

Here's a review I found on the album.

Wait. If I get this CD, does Mel Gibson get any money?
Posted By: spiffnme Re: Good CD... - 03/25/04 01:27 AM
wrong movie...Marty Scorsese may get a nickel though.

Of course. I just saw the word Passion and my eyes got bleary.

full agreement with selling england by the pound -- definately one of my favorites. it has been digitally remastered and the vocals in cinema show are amazing on the axioms. I listened to the whole lamb album last weekend... I had no idea its available in 5.1... wow! The best genesis song/recording is of course the musical box on the first live album.

I picked up the growing up concert in DTS from Gabriel. Pretty impressive, almost HD quality.

just listened to 2 new artists to me that i consider krall competitors. joanne? monheit, dream with me, & eva cassidy, songbird. sweet voices. can't remember which one sings "over the rainbow", but it's the first time i've actually enjoyed it.

Eva Cassidy sings "Over The Rainbow." If you know the story behind Eva, and her sad death, the song becomes even more poignant, if that's possible. Helluva voice.

Jane Monheit is interesting too, but I think I like Krall better.

OK...finally got that "Passion" cd into the house. Wow...run out now and buy it everyone. I have the old original pressing, and it's amazing. I can't wait to get the remastered SACD.
