How come axiom uses dual tweeters For the M80's? It is for more power handling or better detail? Most speakers that cost thousands dont even have dual tweeters.

Hi,

For greater power handling. Up to 1200 watts per channel using program material.

I thought max power was only 400 watts?

*instert sigh*

they are rated for 400 watts. but as alan says, are capable of withstanding 1200 watts. This does not mean, go and buy a couple of cheap pro amps capable of 1kw each.

So there is no detail benefit to the dual tweeters? Is extra power handling the only reason to go for the M80's over the M60's?

If I have a 14x25 room with an 11x20 kitchen off of it and I have separates with an amp capable of handling 4ohm loads, should I go with the M80's or will the M60's be loud enough for the room?

Hi AndrewS,

By virtue of a taller and deeper enclosure, the M80s have somewhat greater deep bass extension and bass output. You can hear the difference when you switch from the M60s to the M80s, but it isn't dramatic. There seems to be little or no difference in detail; they are very, very similar.

In a bigger room, when you are farther back, the M80s also sound a bit more authoritative than the M60s, but otherwise the big difference is maximum output and power handling.

Regards,
