IM really enthuastic about getting the M80's. Im upgrading from the Polk RT800 (I know...I was in college when i bought these..was broke). Am i going to see a complete difference of sound quality. I just cant wait.

I would think that you will hear a large difference in the speakers. I have heard many of the current and older Polk models, and can state that they are/were difficult to listen to. They became tiresome after short periods of listening, even with very good quality system pieces.

Just curious, what components are in your current lineup?

I have some RT12 just collecting dust now that I've bought the M80s.

Pretty close to a night and day difference.
The sound of the M80 is tighter, more accurate and has better base extension and can definitely play louder.

My receiver is a Pionner Elite 120Wx5 for 6-0hm. Are the M80's going to sound nice on this receiver? Im just worried due to the 4-ohm inpedence of the M80's...thanks

Hmmm....with no source listed, I guess you listen to the radio in 5.1?

I would think that you should be fine driving the Axioms with your Pioneer. If your rear speakers are that bad, perhaps you can rearrange your models when the new front models are installed. You might look to get a balanced front and rear set from Axiom, with M60's and save some money for the rears. Have a look at the Factory Outlet models, as most who have purchased them have had good results.

Only your budget and current satisfaction can guide you.

Actually, when I listen to music, I like to listen in stereo (2 channel). I already placed an order for the M80's (factory outlet) and they should be here Tuesday. I cant wait. How long should the break in period be?

Ahh.....a well debated topic in audio circles......but which ones are not right?

The camps divide this way:
1) speakers do not require a break in period.
2) speakers do require a break in period.

My thoughts and best practices are that they do require a break in period. Ian has also indicated this for his products. I would recommend if the designer has said this, it is required. Besides, what do you have to lose but a few hours of limited output level listening? If it is true, you have a properly aclimated set of speakers and if it is false you could have wasted time. But, if it is true and you have not complied, you could risk damaging the speakers. I have wondered about what is being broken in, the speakers, or my hearing adjusting to the sound of the newer and presumably different sounding speakers......probably a little of both. I am sure a board reader will post a long winded explanantion about listening tests, etc.

So, what have you got to lose?

Galo, since the speaker cones will cycle over 100,000 times in the first minute of operation, that should be an ample "break in" period.
