Why is it that the pair of M60SE (non FO) I own, purchased Feb 2002, are dual-ported (one front, one rear), while those pictured on the Products page are triple-ported (one front, two rear)? What gives? Has the speaker design been quietly updated? Or are the product pics an error? Thanks, and cheers!

Hi Dave,
I think it's a picture error. We just launched our new site "look" and we're correcting any glitches that show up. To my knowledge, the M60 is not being redesigned. Will check in with our webmistress about the picture.

Thanks for the reply, Alan. Kindly note as well that in the "compare all towers" info pop-up, the M60 is designated as being triple-ported. Curioser...
Say Alan, while I have you ear, can you give us an idea of when the new versions of manuals will be available? And will they be available in a PDF format? Thanks for your time, sir. Cheers!

Yes there was a revision made to the M60s. The separate internal cabinet was modified to allow the space behind the tweeter to be utilized for the dual 6 1/2" woofers like the M80s have always been. This meant that the other port was required to maintain the same tuning frequency as before. This modification was mainly for manufacturing reasons and not a performance change.

Ian/Alan

I am a bit confused. Sounds like it's the new version that has three ports - but Alan thinks the picture is in error?

Anyhow, if the net internal volume available to the woofers has been increased then the port length would be decreased to achieve the same tuning. If so, the third port must be to increase the effective port diameter and lower the port air speed? But I've never had any chuffing problems with my two port version.

thanks
