Hey all;
I am regarding the status of the M40's and Epic40 package as there wasen't any photos changed in recent months and how the Epic40 is completly absent from the HT system pages, now is this an indacaton of a new speaker (s) comming anytime soon?
thanks Sean

There have been some hints that the Epic 40 HT package wasn't selling a lot, and it did disappear from the main pages of the US site a few months ago. The CDN view was not updated at the time so Epic 40 was still there.

AFAIK the Epic 40 is a wonderfully viable stereo music speaker (typically running without a sub), gets great reviews, and looks really good in the NRC tests -- but in the HT world where you have to have a sub anyways it doesn't offer much over the M3. Efficiency and power handling are about the same (naturally) so the only real benefit is flatter, smoother bass response.

The M22 actually seems to be a tiny bit more capable (spec-wise at least) of filling a large room -- if you measure the drivers 2 of the "5 1/2" drivers have almost exactly the same cone area as 1 of the "6 1/2" drivers -- so the main benefit of the M40s comes if you have a receiver which lets you set different crossover frequencies for mains vs. surround/center (ie an HK).

For HT customers I imagine the M22 is just an easier sell than the M40, for a mix of good and bad reasons. The good reason is that the M22 has "the M60 sound" which more of the Axiom buyers seem to prefer... the bad reason is that when you buy a tower speaker the full price is visible when you are making the decision, while with bookshelf speakers it's easy to fall into the "Oh nuts I need to get stands too" after ordering. You end up spending almost as much on M3s/M22s as on M40s once you factor in good stands but many of us don't think about stand cost when deciding which "Buy" button to push

If you look at the US site you'll see the M40 is still front and center in the "speakers" offerings, it's only the Epic 40 HT combination that has been taken off the site.

Hi Sean;

The Spic 40 package is still there in the US pages, just have to look under "Store" rather than "Products"

I see the "Review" of the M40 is still listed in the "Reviews" section, so perhaps the receint discussions, by John, and others, in this forum about the M40 has helped to keep it alive!

There are a number of folks in this forum who have them and are aggressively happy with them, it would be a shame for them(the speakers, and the members)to go away!

It is historically accurate to say, however, that those systems that don't sell well, do tend to fade out of the picture.

Hey, I'm an M40 owner and I'm damn proud!!!

Seriously though, I believe the M40's are caught in the middle of some excellent speakers...the M22 and M50.

I purchased my M40's with the expectation that they would be sent back within their 30-day trial period, and that I would be trading them in for either of the 2 mentioned above or possibly the M3's.

Well, I was so impressed that I've kept them. Even today, I would be hard pressed to give them up.

thanks for the info guys;
But I just noticed the M40's are missing from the US floorstanders pages, that has to be some type of indication??

They're still there if you click on "our products".

They've been working on renovating the site a lot lately. It could be an oversight.

Sean and Alou; Do not GIVE UP on the M40s: Keep the pressure on!!! We like our "Pleasant" class speakers and don't want them to be discontinued!

Ok, so that's a little bit over the top, but as an owner of two out of the three of the "Laid Back" group, I happen to like the sound of them and I'm sure others would too, if they had a chance to hear them.

(um...want to start the Posse back up?)

THE M40 POSSE LIVES ON!!!

F107, when I first read your post, I thought it said "peasant" class. Then I re-read...

I won't give up my M40's for anything!!! (Unless you gimme a sweet deal on a set of M60's...)

Aw, shucks, Alou:

A sweet deal on What??(it looks like M60s-is that a misprint?)
How'd you know it was me-I tried to hide my identity?

Yeah, the group looks small, but I'll bet there are many hundreds more out there, maybe thousands, listening, rather than surfing!!
Yeah, that's right; thousands!!!

I knew it was you...:) The posse's small.

Maybe even millions. But how do we contact them all to tell them we need a larger on-line presence? My Vulcan mind-meld trick is just that...a stupid party trick.

Or look at it this way...if they do discontinue the M40, our's will become "collector's items". And then who'll be laughing....MUWHA HA HA!!!

Cool poll Sirquack. I didn't realize how in the minority my choices were.

thanks Paul, I need to update my website, but have been very busy. The basement is all textured now, so I need to get priming/painting, fun fun fun.

Maybe Axiom is coming out with an M45 - 1" titanium tweeter, 1 x 6.5" woofer and 1 x 5.25" midrange driver. Could be interesting.

Yeah, the Posse may be small, but it's a happy group(we're laughing, Now!!) sorta like a limited exclusive club, huh? Life from a different perspective.

We could add to the exclusivity by being the only group that uses 2x6spds' M45 as a full range center if it ever became available!(in bookshelf size)
