I was wondering if any of you Jazz lovers here, are familiar with Mosaic Boxed sets. These are limited edition boxed sets remastered to the highest standards, pressed on the highest quality vinyl or CD and then beautifully packaged in 12 x 12 collectors boxes with a booklet containing high quality photographs of the sessions and throughly researched discographies, biographies and music analysis. If you love Jazz you owe it to yourself to follow this thread. I currently own about 35 of these sets and I have never been disappointed with any of them. The other day at work I listend to the entire 4 disc set of Grant Green. Outstanding guitar work with excellent piano by Sonny Clark. Since getting my new speakers I have been systematically working my way through each set. Just thought I should let you fellow jazz lovers know about this excellent label.

I like your new avatar Oz, you look younger here ;-)
The new avatar was taken a few years ago. That other shot... We were kidding around at the studio and I did my Crazy Guggenheim imitation. It makes me look about 20 years older. I was expecting to get some ribbing here on the boards, but I guess everyone is much too polite. Crazy G was a character on the Jackie Gleason show from when I was a kid. My dad loved the show and especiallly that character. Most here are too youg to remember him. He was a customer that came into the bar. Gleason was the bar tender. Crazy was always smashed. I guess that's why I relate to him so well.Dohh!

Frank Fontaine. I remember him well. It was always such a shock to see this slapstick drunk suddenly start singing a lovely song with in an incredibly beautiful baritone voice

You got it, govenor.
They don't have "Variety shows" like that anymore. As a matter of fact I don't think they have any variety shows anymore. I always thought Gleason and Carol Burnette were the very best of the genre. But thank god we have reality tv now. Tongue planted firmly in cheek.[vomit] Oops! we don't have the vomit smiley face.

LOL! Oh those reality shows are for young people. Us old crocks have had so much "reality" in our lives that all we are looking for is a little "escape from reality." Give me a good tale with a happy ending, and I'm a happy camper. The less resemblance to "reality," the better.
OK...so I guess I can take the deafening silence here as evidence that there are no Mosaic collectors. I think these forums a really great and it is clear that there are plenty of music lovers here. But it is almost all harware oriented. I thought a little more music and artist talk would round it out a little. I love the "so what are you listening to tonight" thread. Does anyone else feel we could generate enough traffic to talk more about the music, artists, labels, mastering/cd quality and the like to add a new topic header in the index?

You and me both, Jack!

YES!
Those reality shows aren't even for young people. They are not worthy of human attention.
Well, you're old..........strike that..........mature for your age.
Be that as it may, I was just driven from my listening room because my family is watching The Biggest Loser. I am ashamed to have to admit to this here in the public domain but my family is addicted to some of these reality (not) shows. I was in the middle of a beautiful Brazilian music sampler. Jobim, Gilberto, many others. At the same time the tv was on with the sound muted as I watched the Tenn. / Florida game. When the game ended this nonsense came on and my daughter yellled out to my wife turn on the sound. I grabbed the headphones until the cd was over. But I was watching this crap and hearing some of the nonsense even through the earphones. God, I can't wait till we are able to complete the 3 room switch. The furniture for the office came in and one piece was damaged. They said it could take 3 or 4 weeks again. Also the cable guys have not been out to install the new outlets and my new speakers are still tied into the main system. I'm going crazy I tell ya.

Oz - thanks for the heads up on this label. I will probably eventually get the Charlie Parker and one or more of the Miles Davis sets (the Columbia '63-'64 recordings looks intriguing and I don't have any of Miles' CDs that cover this time frame).
These sets are outstanding. That is why I wanted to let everyone here know about it. Be careful though some of the sets are vinyl only. I think that goes for all of the Miles stuff. Of course if your a vinyl fan then go for it. My brother has some of the Miles LP's from Mosaic and has said they are of very high quality. You will love the booklets and annotated info as well. Well worth the money.
