ok guys. i can hardly believe this was the real problem, but it seems to have been. i had 2 couches in the area in front of my tv...one was kinda blocking my direct line to the speaker, etc.

well, i moved both couches out of the way, just to see what the difference would be for sound. i havebeen listening to music for 2 hours now...and loving every minute of it.

THE VOCALS ARE BACK!!!

it seems that just by moving the couches out of the way, and turnin off the LOUD function, all my lost vocals are back. i was even thinking of selling these M60Ti's, but now i don't think i will. they sound fantastic. i FINALLY know what all you guys have been raving about.

i'd still like a pair of martin logans, and jm lab focals, but i think i'll still keep these axioms now. very very impressive difference just from moving the furniture around. and very weird, i think. but hell, i'm THRILLED. just thought i'd share. sorry so long

oh ya. one other thing. i don't know if you remember me complaining that these speakers didn't seem very loud...well....now that there is no furniture in the way, holy crap are they loud. i was listening before at -5, now i can't bear to turn them up past -10 or so. weird eh???

So you have been listening to speakers with a sofa in the way the whole time and you didnt think that might be a problem?

Jinx, can I make a suggestion that is going to sound cockier than I mean it to be?

Take some time and learn what you're doing before even considering blowing money on this hobby. You're so fired up to decry a speaker line good or bad or to spend some serious coin, but you don't understand your equipment well enough to know the "loudness" switch was engaged in your amp or that room acoustics make a difference?

May I cautiously recommend you spend more time learning this hobby by reading posts instead of rushing to make them?

well. my other speakers were taller, and it never was a problem before. i just never really thought about it. i never said it was a smart thing. just a revelation more or less. i can laugh at myself too. i'll be ordering a VP150 soon...that is, unless i get my transfer to Ottawa...then i'll have to hold off.

well, you may, but...i work hard, i have money, and i have no children, so basically i am the child. and sometimes i act like it i guess...meaning spontaneous purchases...i have been reading a lot, and learning a lot. i will say, the axioms are not the best speaker i have ever heard by a long shot, but for the price, they are pretty good. i was just very concerned about the lost vocals...

I wouldn't call that room dynamics. More like intelligent speaker placement. It makes a huge difference.

Heck, tonight I was heading to Best Buy on Hwy 61 Revisited. I could not figure out why it was so hard to see the road, then it dawned on me, what if I turn my headlights on? Wow, what a freaking difference dudes, I could see the road much more clearly.

ya ya. rub it in. it wasn't like it was completely blocking the speaker or anything, just kinda in the way of the soound waves i guess. at least i can admit my mistakes..and learn from them. jesus, you guys act like you don't have a WAF either....
Posted By: AdamP88 Re: room dynamics...what a difference - 11/20/05 06:52 AM
Wait, you said you were single. If you're single...then there's no WAF involved.

He didn't say single, just no kids. Big difference

In Jinx's defence, this is the kind of mistake I would make. Tall speakers, couch in the way, hmm, doesn't seem to be a problem, mind registers "couch isn't a problem". Next set of speakers are not so tall, but mind still says "couch isn't a problem" until one day the light comes on.

I'm just not so likely to post about my "finest moments" unless there is an element of humour in addition to my own mistakes...

Yeah,...I've been living with the same situation of stuff in the way....in my case it's a fireplace and speakers in CABINETS

(WAF ya know)

Was really gettin' down on my system too, especially after listenin' to one of my Grandsons' CDs which he said sounded better on the diningroom system,.....and it did I then listened to it on earphones in the main system and the missing stuff was back!! So I listened near-field on the M50s and it was there, but nothing spectatular.

So this morning; not being able to sleep, I snuck out to the dining room and slid the diningroom table and chairs out into the livingroom, pulled the wires off the back of the Brand "X" speakers residing there and plugged the M50s in their place.

WOW!!!

Oh Believe me Jinx I know what the WAF factor is all about, otherwise I'd own some special finish 80's with EP600's.
Man, I'm glad I don't have to worry about WAF. The only issue my wife has ever had was my lp's thrown about. Now that she loves vinyl so much she not only doesn't complain, she goes out and buys vinyl for us. She didn't even flinch when I bought a $380.00 Dynavector 10x5 cartridge for my turntable last week.

Don't sweat it Jinx, we all make mistakes. My biggest was removing the metal strip between the binding posts.

Also, my couches are always moved for optimum placement (meaning out of the way) when I want to do some serious movie watching or music listening.
