I'm pretty new to all this audio stuff, but I was wondering if a Yamaha RX-777 would be able to handle the M80ti's? Theres a switch on the back of the 2-channel receiver that says, "A or B: 4OhmMIN /speaker". This lets me assume that it will have enough stength to power them, but then again I got the receiver for pretty cheap and wouldn't be suprised if I was totally missing something.

That Yamaha RX-777 was my first choice for my first real stereo, before going with the Rotel stereo receiver. Now, if you can see below, I have Rotel separates.

I remember it was an awesome receiver for the price.

Sprite I'm sure some of the others will jump in on your question as I've never owned Yamaha. I know some people have had issues with some of Yamaha's higher end AVR's not being able to drive the 4ohm 80ti's. They normally overheat and go into protection mode and shut down.

I would also give some consideration to the m60's, they are great and fill my 30' x 30' room with no problem..

Sprite, welcome. It's highly likely that the 777 would have more than enough power for the M80s, unless the room was huge and the listening level extremely loud. In fact, it would be advisable not to use the switch in the 4ohm position except in the unlikely circumstance that the receiver would keep shutting down. The 4ohm position reduces the maximum voltage(and therefore the current and power)available and should only be used as a last resort, even with speakers rated at 4 ohms, if the receiver would otherwise start to overheat and shut off.

Thanks for the helpful replies! The room is pretty decent sized and eventually I plan on getting a better pre-pro/amp or reciever for my speakers. The rotel combo actually looks pretty attractive, but I'll worry about that when I get the cash needed.
